In other news, the IOC has apparently sold out of t-shirts depicting the Nazi-themed poster for the 1936 Berlin Olympics, despite being begged not to offer them (Source: The Daily Telegraph).

That's the IOC - reliably hypocritical since, well, forever.

Three years, so what? Americans elected Trump twice despite his chaotic first term. And that means it isn't just about Trump but a collapse of trust in US reliability *over time*.

Newsom's tendency to fight Trump in Trumpian ways may not help either, implying populism is ingrained in US politics.
Newsom’s message to world leaders in Munich: It’s time to start thinking about the next president.

“Donald Trump is temporary,” Newsom said in a panel about climate change at #MSC2026. “He’ll be gone in three years.”

Trump posted a video depicting the first Black president and his wife as apes and his excuse for this is that it's a riff on The Lion King, a movie that does not feature any apes. Somehow this was a one-day story and we've already moved on.

I've kept "I hate myself, I hate clover, and I hate bees" pinned above my desk since I first started studying evolutionary biology as an undergraduate. So relatable to get extremely frustrated with your study system.

I tell my students that an essay is a destination, but the learning happens in the journey. AI can teleport you to the destination (in some fashion) but only the journey can enrich you along the way.

Vox pops are pointless and misleading. If they have to be balanced then what do they prove? If they are not balanced they don’t give a variety of views. I speak as someone who was once asked why my vox pops from Clydebank (where I was born) didn’t seem to include any Conservatives…. Any guesses?
Vox Pops: yes or no?
Am obviously hating the way Radio Four, rather than binning vox pops on this and other issues, now just uses a few comments from Radio Five Live's morning phone-in. Cheaper, and saves a reporter having to stand in the cold recruiting jobless and retired passers-by. But it's still rubbish journalism.

Re Ratbag: Seen a few people quoting Tony Wilson's 'This is Manchester. We do things differently here'? But did he ever say that?

What he did say was, 'You're entitled to your opinion but your opinion is shit.'

Which works much better.

Jim Ratcliffe's abhorrent comments go completely against the ethos of Manchester United. Loved going to games as a kid in the 1980's and being very aware of the inclusive vibe from everyone! Ugly views like Ratcliffe's were commonplace in fans of other clubs, who simply were thugs and shitbags.
