Seven posts for the Hurricanes tonight, based on the NHL play-by-play.
Brind’Amour isn’t going to be thrilled with some of the sloppiness defensively. #Canes still generally with the better of the play.
Taylor Hall puts the #Canes in front, 1-0.

The former Devil gets the first Carolina goal of the season.

Good, quick cross point pass by Nikishin to Ghost for the one-timer, which Hall redirected.
Key matchup tonight in #Canes v #Devils will be Stankoven — in his first game as a center — and his line against the Glass line.

If Aho and Staal can play Hughes and Hischier to a draw, it’ll be on Stank to see if he can take advantage of the matchup.
Good for the #Canes.
A source confirmed to me what Frank Seravalli has reported, which is that the Hurricanes will not be signing Michael McLeod or Carter Hart.
Mark remains one of my favorite reporters. Good story here.
Following their acquittal, the return to the NHL of Carter Hart and Michael McLeod seems imminent.

I visited Carolina and Vegas — the two likeliest landing spots — to see how the teams are handling the possibility.

The two trips went... differently.

My story:

As Hockey Canada players’ NHL return nears, how will they be embraced by their new teams?
The players carry significant baggage, and signing them could come at a cost for teams that goes beyond finances.

I will be incredibly disappointed in the #Canes if they sign Hart or McLeod.
Well that didn’t go as well as hoped
PP1 NIKISHIN ALERT
#Canes lineup is official — I was slightly off. One NHL line is playing, and it makes sense, it’s Stankoven working at center with Hall and Blake.

Nikishin is playing, but not with his likely starting defense partner Ghost. Will be curious if he ends up with Legault.
I think there’s a good chance the #Canes’ lineup tomorrow has zero players that will appear on the opening night lineup except for Nikishin and Ghost.

All the other vet spots will likely be filled by PTOs and Jost.
Day one of #Canes training camp is in the books.

#Canes with a great win heading into the break.

This team will be just fine folks. Just need time to formulate chemistry. Gotta remember — Rantanen has played with the same linemate for the better part of a decade.
I’m not concerned about the #Canes. They’re playing well, they just are still trying to find chemistry in a lineup that’s been really shaken up.

No shame in losing to two of the best teams in the league coming off a 7-game point streak.

Some people need to settle down.
Thought Necas and Drury both played well today — but the #Avs fall 3-1.
Necas looking great on MacKinnon’s wing so far.
Of note: #Canes and #Avs have already completed their season series.
On #32Thoughts today, Elliotte Friedman mentioned the #Canes would like to resign Eric Robinson.

Players that signed one year deals were eligible to receive extensions on January 1st, so Robinson could be signed at any time.

He’s been a versatile piece that fits well in Brind’Amour’s system.
William Carrier will miss tonight’s game for the #Canes.

Since it was a game-time decision, it doesn’t sound like it’s something significant — but the winger will miss at least a game.
Really solid win for the #Canes tonight.
Good effort from the #Canes tonight, but a couple key mistakes ultimately cost them.

Not too much to critique as far as overall play goes, though, apart from being reallllllly bad in the skills competition.
The #Canes beat the #Devils 7-6 on aggregate.

Oh wait, wrong sport.
Regardless of the result, the #Canes look much better coming out of the holiday break than they did going into it.

Won’t be much consolation though, but they just have to keep up the effort and the results will come.
