Step 2. A cat is inside the sunbeam.

If correct, this is around 2% of the US population, actually physically out in the streets
Today's official crowd count estimate from #NoKings coalition:

7 million people turned out nationwide

That's 2 million more than the #NoKings peaceful protests in June
Good turnout at No Kings McKinney despite the rain. Here were my contributions. 🚫👑
Oh, I forgot to post this one.
18. Black Phone 2 (2025) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A fantastic follow-up to the first one. Mason Thames is great once again, but this one is really Madeleine McGraw's film, and she absolutely kills it. Also it has one of the loudest jump scares in recent memory.
17. The Black Phone (2022) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
First time rewatching this one since it was in theaters. Real solid supernatural thriller, looking forward to seeing where they go in the next one.
Women don’t like the vehicle
Yeah, I haven’t planned a full list in advance this year, but I loved Together when I saw it in the theater and I’ll probably rewatch it this month.
Dinking around with a hobby project for the first time in a while. The x-axis is the uh, the uh, the thing, and the y-axis is the uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh, the other thing?
16. Bring Her Back (2025) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A masterclass in "show, don't tell," with nerve-racking performances from the whole cast and some truly gnarly makeup and effects.
15. 28 Years Later (2025) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've been wanting to rewatch this one for a couple months; I only saw it once in the theater, but I've been feeling like it's probably a top five for the year. An absolute singular fever dream of a film.
14. Opus (2025) ⭐⭐⭐
Missed this one in theaters earlier this year. Lotta similarities to last month's Him or any of those kinds of cult-thrillers. It's a little goofy and aimless in the middle, but it looks great, and Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich give some really fun performances.
13. The Monkey (2025) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Monkey strikes an unusual balance between hilarious black comedy and earnest statement on mortality. It captures Stephen King's storyteller voice in film in a really fun way.

Maya jumped on top of my shirts and towels as I was stacking them to fold, so I just…kept stacking them on top of her. Totally unbothered.
12. Longlegs (2024) ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌗
Bumping this one up by a half star after a third viewing. (Did the same for Gretel & Hansel yesterday.) Such a great vibes-horror film. Legitimate chiaroscuro in the image!

Might double feature this one with The Monkey tonight.

Sadly, my contract with Blizzard ended in September. That means I'm looking for fulltime or contract work as a senior writer or narrative designer. If you need someone who can write sharp characters, poetic prose, and emotional stories, I'm available! www.hazelmonforton.com
It's #portfolioday! I'm presently a senior narrative designer at Blizzard, but before that I was at Bungie and Arkane. I wrote for the Writer's Guild award-nominated Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and a bunch of critically acclaimed seasons and expansions in Destiny 2.
Forgot to take a screenshot of it, but I found my first Phosphene today! Also I now have a level 50 Wombo Combo in each of the five elements. 💪

“Seen once, must fix.”
In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.
11. Gretel & Hansel (2020) ⭐⭐⭐🌗
Now we're into the part of the Osgood Perkins block that I have seen before. Gretel & Hansel looks and sounds fantastic, and I'm still fascinated by the change in aspect ratio between the opening and the rest of the film, but it doesn't have all that much to say.
10. I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016) ⭐⭐⭐
I was kind of zonking out during the middle of this one, and maybe I'd like it better on a more lucid rewatch, but it was a moody and effective use of a small enclosed space, which is always a fun horror trope.
