SB Nation's Yankees site. Remember when Aaron Judge hit 62 dingers? That was awesome.

in this trying time for our country, we must all come together with open arms and say: "holy shit, 49-year-old Alfonso Soriano is jacked"

BRYCE MILLER DID THIS ON THREE DAYS' REST!

evidently, Yankees pitching made Smoltz & Davis think that the Jays were the '27 Yankees, which hey, if that was your first exposure all year to that dynamic, sounds right
pinstripealley.bsky.social
every Yankees pitcher not named Cam Schlittler is dumbfounded that it's possible to pitch to the Blue Jays and not give up 10,000 runs

robot tried to pick DJ LeMahieu for series MVP

We did some ALCS picking.
Well, "we" being the PSA staff and a random number generator too, for funsies. What's yours?

Kyle Tucker 0-for-4 with 2 K's in the do-or-die Game 5, the man is ready for pinstripes

Tommy Kahnle beginning his outing with a fastball is a good bit, I'll admit.
(Anyway, time to change this Tigers game up into a loss.)

while we're in Bad Memory Corner, the Tigers' previous record for longest extra-inning game was 2012 ALCS Game 1, aka the night that Derek Jeter's ankle officially exploded
pinstripealley.bsky.social
well the nice thing for the Tigers is that nothing bad has ever happened to the visiting team in Seattle during the 11th inning of ALDS Game 5
pinstripealley.bsky.social
and then after all that (plus a 3-homer game in Game 4), Babe Ruth was caught stealing (??) to end the World Series
no joke!

Kerry Carpenter has reached base safely 5 times, tied for the most in a winner-take-all postseason game, with:

2014 ALWCG Eric Hosmer
2012 NLDS G5 Carlos Beltrán
1926 WS G7 Babe Ruth

Only Carpenter and Ruth homered in those games

Wow! This ALDS Game 5 is sure a lot of fun!
Too bad the Yankees weren't interested!
Oh well!
I'm feelin' fine!
Doing great!

never forget that the legendary 1927 Yankees won it all on a walk-off wild pitch

"The morning after the morning after" is always the kinder one because you finally slept a little, but the one feeling that never escapes is the one of wanting to yeet Aaron Boone & his stupid face into the sun
The Aaron Boone Playoff Script Never Changes
The Yankees are going home losers, just as they have in every playoff appearance of Boone’s tenure. Will the franchise finally learn from its failure?

When you are the New York Yankees and you never shut the fuck up about WORLD SERIES OR BUST and CHAMPIONSHIP LORE etc., playoff success is the bar you’ve publicly created for yourself.
Those are the breaks.

Yankees regressed from ALCS to ALDS in ‘20, ALDS to Wild Card in ‘21, ALCS to out of playoffs in ‘23, and now World Series to ALDS in ‘25. All under the same guy, with only ‘22 and ‘24 as reprieves.
(and both featured severe playoff embarrassment anyway via Astros sweep & Nestor/Game 5 errors)

It also feels like something that could’ve been said about Boone & the Yankees after most of the last several seasons, where they regressed from the previous year in some way

"This won't immediately fix everything" isn't a good reason not to do something. You've gotta always be looking to improve or you get left behind, talking about your franchise as if it's the best in the game when it clearly isn't, while your division rival sprays champagne in your clubhouse.

I have bad news if you think any of the 30 clubhouses in Major League Baseball would turn down a chance to hang out with that guy, given the kinds of people who make up said clubhouses

Good morning. Here we are again, with a post-mortem on a another disappointing finish to an up-and-down Yankees season in this era. It's a familiar tale.
The 2025 Yankees were doomed by familiar stories of frustration
These Yankees can’t hurt us anymore.

hope those luxury tax savings Hal got by keeping the AAV down on that was worth it!!

Stroman had a player option for 2026 that did not vest, I don't believe they owe him anything next year

The ending that the 2025 Yankees unfortunately deserved for how the vast majority of 'em played in this series. Sigh.
