Brown Sugar - brilliant, brilliant album. Over the years it's become my favorite D'Angelo record, arguably one of the best-sounding productions of its entire decade. His passing is not easy to process.

Receive Your Punishment from The Gateway Tape is the only Phirnis track featuring old-school noise screaming and yelling. I recorded the vocals at my band's rehearsal space, with my friend Robin showing me how to set up the right distortion.

Low Visibility Concerns, from The Gateway Tape on @strategictaper.bsky.social, is mostly built from toy guitar and thumb piano. Guest musician Chorchill contributed some melodica lines to keep the whole thing from falling apart.
