don't miss Lauren's big story from right before Thanksgiving:
After Biden commuted the sentences of 37 men on federal death row last year, the Trump administration is retaliating by sending them to the supermax. Prisoners are locked in cells smaller than a parking space 22-24 hours a day.

One prisoner told me he fears he won't make it out alive.

My latest:
Death Row Prisoners Granted Clemency by Biden Brace for "Living Hell" Under Trump - Bolts
Trump officials are retaliating by imposing the harshest conditions in the entire federal prison system, including near total isolation.

Both Hegseth and adm Bradley will need to answer some questions.

The Boston Globe identified the companies in Massachusetts that employ the most SNAP recipients. A key stat: "In Massachusetts, 74% of working-age recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are employed, half of them full-time."

Remember, too, that Hegseth would have been rejected if a single additional Republican senator — or, JD Vance — had joined Sen. Collins, McConnell, and Murkowski in voting no with the Democrats. See: www.senate.gov/legislative/...

DISAPPEARED: The Trump administration’s deportation scheme

I just called the offices of Senators Ernst and Grassley, and Congresswoman Hinson, and stated my unequivocal opposition to an unprovoked and unjust war against the people of Venezuela.
Time to call your members of Congress, people...NO war with Venezuela!
The deranged madman now threatens to blow up commercial airliners flying in and out of Venezuela.

We need to be lighting up Senate and congressional switchboards right now, in addition to anything we might post on social media.

Wouldn’t hurt to contact media companies as well.

It would be nice if we could get 1 million people surrounding Congress and the White House like a flash mob.
The president is about to start a war for no real reason. All of the things he has blamed on the country he’s targeting — fentanyl distribution, “emptying the asylums” and sending patients to the U.S., alignment with Tren de Aragua— are provably, obviously false.

Lots of people are going to die.

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

In < 1 year, Trump, Musk, Hegseth, Miller, et al, have obliterated decades of fragile respect. We used to save lives, advance science, mediate conflicts, offer safe harbor.

Now we compete with Putin and bin Salman for reprehensible behavior. Pardoning drug lords, killing sailors at sea. And USAID.
Trump Announces Pardon for Honduran Ex-President Convicted in Drug Case, “running his Central American country like a narco state.”

Pete Hegseth, meanwhile, ordered murders of people on a boat in the Caribbean.

Exactly. The operator isn't getting an order to "kill these drowning men," they're being told "strike grid coordinates XYZ"

The people who *know* need to be held accountable, and that's pretty senior.
Someone made the point - I think Adam Kinzinger - that the problem is it’s one thing to refuse to murder someone if ordered. It’s another to refuse an order where you yourself don’t have the full context and couldn’t possibly - but someone above you does/did

The problem for military personnel is that by the time an operational order reaches them, they assume that someone higher up must have signed off on it. (Which is correct.)

Instead of carping about "the military," ask where General Caine and the joint chiefs are.
Spare us all the "few bad apples" line when no member of the armed forces has been accused of refusing to murder civilians. Not. One.

Honor and dishonor are about what people actually do.
