i love how bsky is full of autodidacts that love to talk trash about autodidacts. i think it's because bsky attracts the ones that know they can't be trusted with their forbidden knowledge.

the fun thing is just letting people build does this just fine!

those new apartments near upscale neighborhoods? most likely: yuppies, and families looking for good schools. their vacanted apartments will now be available for underhoused!
It's usually not an explicit question. More likely someone immediately starts telling me about why they don't want more housing in *their* neighborhood or unloading their contempt for homeless people, with the implicit question being, "But you still think I'm still a good person, right? Right??"
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Our Discord support agent was kind of annoying, so I asked it to pretend to be a 58-year old systems administrator from Ohio that wrote on forums a lot.

Turns out -- this makes your support bot extremely competent. The quality of its support responses are now far better.

"we found a Type Of Guy who represents a particularly helpful corner of the latent space" is easily my favorite type of positive LLM posting.

Right?! Every one-way air conditioner that dies in Texas should get replaced by a two-way heat pump that both heats and cools. Essentially the same equipment and cost as a central air conditioner, but knocking out resistive heating would save tons of money and shave winter demand peaks a lot.

Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Don't look up!

I don't doubt that blue states are more efficient, but California is low largely because people use fossil gas for space and water heating. Massachusetts too!

California's electricity usage should be HIGHER, but its high prices prevent electrification!

Electrify Everything!
(1/3) Red states appear to intentionally waste electricity by not making efforts to reduce electricity use through better insulation, appliance standards, etc.

The nine states with the lowest per-capita electricity use are all blue

The 12 states with the lowest per-capita electricity use are red

apparently 1 cup of coffee requires 600 cups of water to grow the beans www.weforum.org/stories/2019...

that's 500,000 gemini queries
Your morning cup of coffee contains 140 litres of water
Agriculture isn't the only water-intensive industry you might not be aware of - the fashion industry consumed enough water to fill 32 million Olympic-size swimming pools in 2017.

wait until everyone hears how many bottles of water are consumed by laser tag
Everyone is getting upset about the data centers. They pollute a lot and use a lot of energy and will eventually be very ugly/huge vacant buildings. And I understand being mad about that. Until you consider the state of the lazer tag industry at this moment, and how much help that sector needs.

Increasingly concerning times for higher education in red states. A conservative student claimed discrimination over an essay where she didn’t cite any source nor address the main question, and instead mentioned the Bible. As a result, the teaching assistant was put on administrative leave
