One thing that I appreciate about #AdventOfCode is that the examples given in the puzzle are often insufficient test cases to come to the right solution. There's been a few times where I pass all the "examples" but get the answer wrong, forcing me to think through the *mechanisms* of the problem.

I've seen a lot of folks despairing on my feed about this research. The work is impressive and I'm not denying that agentic AI is alarmingly good at pretending to be a human. But I don’t think this is the literal end of online survey research. 🧵
This is terrifying.

"[AI agents] can... infer a researcher's latent hypotheses and produce data that artificially confirms them."

Me overhearing my daughter, playing with her Barbies: "Ok girls. We're not talking about stealing these shoes... we're talking about stealing the WHOLE STORE"

Which one of y'all showed her Ocean's 11 😂

Not that kind of doctor, but my impression from my exposure to the medical field is that very few people who are wheeled-in for an MRI can be said to be in "exceptional physical health." It's not typically the kind of thing doctors do for funsies.
Q: You recently said you'd check with Trump about why he needed to get an MRI. Do you have details?

LEAVITT: I do. The full results were reviewed by attending radiologist and consultants and all agreed that President Trump remains in exceptional physical health

You know those shirts that say "only the best dads get promoted to grandpa"?

If I'm lucky enough to have grandkids one day, I want my copy of the shirt to say that, but with this image underneath:

This some straight-up Torment Nexus bullshit
New: Videos show ICE/CBP agents are scanning peoples' faces on the street to verify citizenship. ICE has tool to instantly look up unprecedented number of databases with just a photo

“I’m an American citizen so leave me alone”

“Alright, we just got to verify that”

ICE and CBP Agents Are Scanning Peoples’ Faces on the Street To Verify Citizenship
Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”

I've, regrettably, driven a fair amount through large cities over the last few years. And, upon reflection, I'm astounded that we so frequently design metro areas that are heavily car dependent but that ALSO have such inscrutable street layouts as to make driving deeply unpleasant!

I wrote a whole dissertation about video games and politics. I have thousands of hours clocked across the Halo franchise. I use GenAI for work and am one of the experts in it for my team. So I can confidently say, across multiple fields of expertise, that we are in the stupidest fucking timeline.

Corruption is one of the top issues (if not THE top issue, depending on the survey) people feel is facing the country right now. Democrats don't even need to do all that much to frame this in a way that taps into that AND Kitchen Table™️ issues. The fact that so many won't even try is stupifying.
GOV. WHITMER: “.. no one is worried about building a ballroom in Washington, D.C. What they want is to make sure that they can feed their kids next week.” Most Americans are “never going to step foot in a ballroom over the course of their lifetime.”

Stab in the dark: But I'm going to guess that the person who implemented the Fire Stick parental password input where the passkey numbers are clearly visible to everyone watching does not, in fact, have children of their own.

Ah yes. Famously, the last time America had a King, a hallmark of his reign was his ability to prevent any demonstrations against his rule.
Mike Johnson: "They called it the No Kings rally. But the great irony of course was…if President Trump were a king, the government would be open. If President Trump was a king, he would have closed the National Parks and the National Mall so they couldn't have had the rally."

I don't have favorites, except for my beloved GLMM's.
I don't really have favorites (I contain multitudes), and until i saw @christophmolnar.bsky.social ask this funny question, I don't think I'd realized how enamored I am of SVMs. They're just so beautiful, especially radial SVM.

Also on my list of loves: KNN!
