My doctoral dissertation was on we/they thinking and violence. What I learned was that differences do not inherently lead to violence. Seeing people perceived as different as “less than” allows us to accept systemic violence (e. g. lack of health care, food, and housing). When we perceive 1/

Imagine not remembering you were in charge on a day that made nearly every American stop everything and watch in horror. That shook us to our core.

It’s thinking that you are one of the chosen people, the chosen race, the chosen gender… and that these things allow you to treat everyone else as though they are lesser. Less “intelligent“, “less cultured”, “less civilized”, “less human”.

I assume that classes where kids aren’t afraid of ostracization are far more correlated to the kindness and openness of professors than those professors’ political views

I’m really happy you had that experience. So some of us did have professors like that. Some didn’t. And yes to the second point. That is my point. It’s not about Harvard or about this point in time. It’s a timeless and universal problem.

What happened in between was October 7th and the war in Gaza. People everywhere were afraid to express their views during that time. Few were speaking with nuanced understanding. I’d like to see if it holds over time.

I was a straight A student through college and grad school (never happened in grad school). When you turn in a first paper and get a B- then write to their perspective the rest of the semester and end up with an A it’s clear. And as students we all talked about it. Happened to others. A few profs.

I went to college in the 80s and in poli sci and Econ classes (align with Reagan) even some psych classes (meds?), we knew we needed to write papers that presented evidence for the professors point of view or get a lower grade. I also knew many people who took the prof who gave “easy As”.

That’s a nice trick, since Biden wasn’t the president on Jan 6.

I like how they gave the Nobel Prize to someone fighting for democracy in Venezuela, instead of someone sinking fishing boats off their coast.

The fact that scholars of fascism and anti-fascism have been leaving the country -- now including Mark Bray fleeing death threats -- should be a huge wake up call to the American public. They more than anyone know the warning signs and the direction we seem to be headed.

If you are a federal worker, there are several credit unions and other financial institutions that are offering zero interest loans during the government shutdown.

Donald Trump is breaching the Constitution and breaking the law.

A show of force so he can militarize our cities because of the 2026 elections.

We need to stand up together and speak up.

There is some research that says feeling unworthy and disempowered does make someone vulnerable to seeing others as less than or dangerous.

I don’t know if it’s weak-minded. As much as being exposed to devaluing messaging and messaging that describes threat. My research didn’t look at who was vulnerable. But I work with teens and young adults. Those young men are hearing a lot these destructive messages.

Reverend David Black, other faith leaders, journalists, and protestors have joined a class action lawsuit alleging ICE violated their First Amendment rights during protests outside a detention center.

The brutality of this regime is on full display.

I definitely don’t think it’s all of them. But I’m in the district that used to be Karen Bass’ before she became mayor. And is now Sydney Kamlager-Dove. They work hard.

The were in session 15 days. Most work when Congress is in recess. At their district offices. They need to make that clearer to the American people. Sort of like people thinking teachers only work when students are in class.

It’s so exhausting! No one can keep up with it all! Glad I could help!!

She explains it in the video. He used the phrase plenary authority. Which is absolute. It’s dictatorship. He knows he should not have said it and couldn’t find a way to backtrack.

Pam Bondi sounds like a 14 year old boy who just got caught by the Principal peeping at girls in the locker room and started yelling insults at the Principal about his and his family’s looks.

Early voting is underway for Prop 50 in California.

I urge anyone in the state to vote yes.

This isn’t a race to the bottom. It’s a means of avoiding the bottom. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/what-blue-states-should-do-when-red
