A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Respectfully inquire your idols. Music is social so be social.

This is where an artist who’s “made it” could easily use their platform to simply tell ppl that they don’t need to musically body-build in order to have a strong creative practice and make something they’re genuinely proud of.
peretsky.bsky.social
What better way to discourage someone from pursuing their art than people shredding virtuosically on camera for the sake of itself or being told there’s a six figure cost of entry to be able to make this type of art at all?

This goes back to the term “musical bodybuilding” that I use to describe what social media shows us in berklee practice rooms or $100k home studios will a wall of euroracks. Rooms full of flexers on high dosages of gear.

A conservatory performance seminar can be just as toxic as YouTube comments section. These places have prison politics, genuinely displaying vulnerability as an aspiring artist is to display weakness.

The practice room, the shed, the studio etc are all incredibly isolating and when we hit a brick wall we’re meant to feel shame for wanting to ask for help or feedback.

I unironically believe you should DM or email your favorite artists that have “made it” on a cold call and respectfully ask them for advice on how to better your music. And I unironically believe that these artists should take the 5 minutes to respond.

It’s a shame that the majority of musicians who have been given the experience of talking shop and sharing works in progress and asking for feedback from mentors amongst other likeminded and aspiring artists did so solely in their formal higher education music programs, if at all.

This could be as simple as an encouraging post on the internet, you don’t actually have to be a *music* teacher in order to be a music *teacher*.
peretsky.bsky.social
I am mentorship-pilled and I am social practice-pilled. I think it should be the responsibility of any artist who has “made it” in their respective fields/scenes to provide some sort of window into what makes them tick for the sake of benefitting those that are eager to learn.

ICE secretly kidnap autistic boy during bathroom break—never notify parents.

Mother reported him missing a week ago—turns out ICE had him detained the whole time.

He was helping sell fruit and asked to go to the restroom—by the time she was done helping a customer he was gone.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."
