Woah! So Labour's position really is, 'telling us off for breaching human rights undermines the case for human rights'? Proper Trumpian stuff from Labour's answer to Suella Braverman.

I can't ever remember such a toxic blend of savagery and idiocy in the worlld.

Maybe people who lived during the 1930s experienced something like this.

There's this pervasive feeling that it's somehow building to a head. Part of me wants it to get a move on, the other part feels utter dread.

I should add (since I am aware I am beginning to sound like Mr Know-It-All - would be under false pretences if I tried to do so) ... the two Steeplechases are my favourites OF THE STROZIER MUSIC I KNOW. By no means comprehensive.
pcsoblahdeehell.bsky.social
Maybe because (as mentioned) his work was spread so thinly, widely you haven't got to it? (See Discography in attached wiki!)

Or bec the high point of SM & His Men was with the great tenorist R Kamuca (1958-1961)?

Maybe you just don't rate Manne so highly? ~I've grown to rate his work very highly!

I am not sure anyone can play any instrument more passionately than this, without separation of player from instrument and/or blowing of a blood vessel. Phenomenal. Tony was an amazing force

Incl with Shelly Manne in the 1960s?

His work was very scattered across leaders, precious little under his own name.

Of which, despite the date with Booker Little, the two Steeplechases are probably my favourites. (And despite the attached stormer, the first, from 1976, is my #1)

A prophet without honor in his own homeland, in 1960 he exiled himself & plied his trade (clarinet, various saxophones) in Eastern Asia and across Europe.

As the common folk voiced by Fagen no doubt would discover, after celebrating:

"We've seen the last of good King Richard!
Ring out the past - his name lives on, and on
Roll out the bones, and raise up your pitcher
Raise up your glass to good King John!!"

(Good King John ...)
