Defames someone on the radio, refuses to withdraw the remarks, gets sued for defamation, claims this is all part of the hard left strategy, falsely claims man she defamed is campaign manager of opponent

So the hard left's strategy would fall apart if she failed to defame someone?
Heather Humphreys has claimed that defamation proceedings taken against her by People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy are part of a “hard left” strategy.

The Fine Gael presidential election candidate said she does “accept the decision of the courts”, which found Mr Murphy not guilty of false imprisonment of former tánaiste Joan Burton in 2017, Ellen Coyne reports.

“But I am disappointed that Catherine Connolly’s campaign manager Paul Murphy has decided to take legal proceedings against me,” Ms Humphreys told RTÉ Radio 1’s News At One programme on Thursday.
The Galway West by-election would be food for thought - could a left candidate encompassing Connolly supporters, SD, Lab and Greens be strong enough to win on their own, or would they also need SF on board? One for @hmcevansoneya.bsky.social's model!
A vote for Labour is a vote for Reform, it seems!
Would imagine they'll only do so if on 20+ TDs, and/or not entering a coalition would trigger another election.
People are savvy enough to figure out who will be best placed in each constituency to block Reform.
Up until around 2011, it was impossible for a left candidate to be elected without FF/FG transfers, so there was little benefit in philosophising about political theory when they needed to be a catch-all TD.
FF and FG themselves compound a binary split, for instance by indulging the agricultural lobby through seeking a further derogation of the nitrates directives, with effluent discharge thus polluting rivers and reducing water quality.
His transfers are still valid, in fairness.
Interesting, he seemed to be leaning towards Humphreys a few weeks ago, so a notable change!
Many of the ones in Kerry go back to the Norman era, back around the time the Earl of Desmond was around, like the Knight of Kerry and the Knight of Glin, whose daughter's married to Dominic West.
At least there'll be one Irishman at next year's World Cup! #CaboVerde
Agreed, would have preferred Frances Black as the left candidate, rather than Connolly, but effectively claiming her to be a Putin sympathiser, and suggesting that criticism of EU treaties is incompatible with being pro-European are gross exaggerations.

Let no man throw a stone at the foreigner; he may hit his own clan.

- James Connolly 1908. Recalled in Cork 2025.

Seagull approves.
Mural in Cork.
Can she expect solicitors papers from @paulmurphy.pbp.ie?
TBF, there was zero chance of two Labour seats in Galway West, so very much a case of throwing toys out of the pram on that occasion.
In other words, Alan Kelly. 😀
About the only worthwhile data in it is that Humphreys can't bridge the gap solely through FF voters (she gets 45%, but Connolly picks up 22%), but needs a huge chunk of the undecideds.
Humphreys would seem to require either Gavin's entire support or an improbably large chunk of undecideds to win.

I think he's more saying that Humphreys hasn't done anything to earn his support, rather than actively endorsing Connolly.
