You know, I had never, ever read Death in the Family before, but I picked up the TPB not long ago and....yeah. Haven't finished it. Hit a big pause button when The Joker became Iran's ambassador to the United Nations.

Yep. “Separating the art and the artist” and “Death of the author” are both ways to approach art critically, but they’re different ways.
"Death of the Author" doesn't mean separating the author's bad behaviour from their art. It means taking away their authority and allowing readers to interpret the art based on their own perspectives. It doesn't absolve the author of being a bastard, in fact it may inform how you interpret the art.

Reading UXM and Classic concurrently was such a treat. Being able to read Wolverine Alone and then realizing the Hellfire goons were the Reavers in the Outback? The best.
