I owned the vhs release of this pilot back in the day and watched it a lot, alongside my off air recordings of some episodes. Watching it back, the tone isn’t quite there yet, it’s still more in the vein of 80s formula stuff but it’s clearly getting there
I’m not really a fan of the trope where favourite characters are kept apart for most of the running time but this was really good. But seriously, what’s with the stupidly long episodes? Just have another couple of episodes of a reasonable length
It’s really sneaky of the #STV service to lure you in with Moonlighting, sell you a £3.99/month “no ads” subscription and then casually reveal “oh yeh some things have ads anyway for contractual reasons”

We knew him when—and he’d kill me for saying this—he was named Anakin. Little Orphan Ani, I called him, and you’ve never seen a better podracer. Sebulba tried to beat him, he came around but we said “Cheska, Sebulba.” You’d think he be too young to race but I guess they do it differently there.
Trump: "We have Darth Vader. You know Darth Vader, right? Darth Vader is a man who is sitting -- is that Darth? Stand up please. Does everybody know -- they call him Darth Vader, I call him a fine man. But he's cutting Democrat priorities and they're never gonna get them back."
Not a favourite. Terry Scott as Tarzan being a particular lowlight. Does contain one of the rudest gags ever in a Carry On, with Joan Sims receiving the attention of a big snake
Where the fuck did that random “the” come from…?

you get actors like Alec Guinness despising their genre work, or like Jeremy Brett being massively screwed up by it, and then you get Christopher Lee calling his cat Renfield.

Alexei Sayle's Stuff (20th October 1988). "Well, we apologise for the absence of Alexei Sayle in this week's edition of Alexei Sayle's Stuff. We're attempting to right the problem, but in the meantime the programme will continue in Leslie Crowther only".
