If you've updated to Windows 11 recently, you're probably on version 25H2.

There's a new setting in Settings: Privacy & Security.

Scroll aaaaaaaalll the way to the bottom and you'll see "Text and Image Generation."

TURN IT OFF.

"Text and image generation uses on-device AI technologies to quickly respond to requests. Turning this settings off will not affect apps and features using cloud AI technologies.

the AI industry is on life support, and the megacorporations who invested in it are trying to shove it in as many people's faces as possible as a way to keep it alive. AI is on life support. and i'm betting on the plug being pulled soon, because the borrowed time is running out.

It just. doesn't make sense to me. with this and how Walmart is partnering with OpenAI to allow people to order through ChatGPT, it doesn't paint the image of a thriving industry. it paints the image of an industry on the verge of collapse.

at this point, i'm thoroughly convinced the AI industry as a whole is running on borrowed time. this doesn't feel like a decision they'd make under normal circumstances. this feels like a last-ditch gambit to keep the industry they invested so much into alive just a bit longer.
