Like The Lonesome Jubilee, I bought this album when I was far too young to understand it, but years later realised just how good it really is.
I'd do that thing where I say "i wish I'd found this album sooner", but no, it obviously found me at exactly the right time - in an extremely rural petrol station - because I am absolutely loving it.
3 - Cosmic Thing
2 - lovebuzz
1 - Rhythm Nation 1814

Honourable mention: about half the list.
I was a bit young at the time but I remember Joey being a hit. I guess I was more properly introduced to it by that radio version of Tomorrow Wendy on the station I listened to a teenager, then finding the album.
That song would probably have to be in something set in the time and place of the original song, but yeah.
I've been playing this a lot lately actually. When they were touring it here with Andy Prieboy, they did a radio session where Andy and Johnette did this, and it was a hell of an introduction to the song for me youtu.be/kI8DPkeGPBU

You know i never even noticed those
@flemishdog.bsky.social thank goodness for modern tech that allows corrections, but nothing screams analog TV like a completely bananas combination of aspect ratios.
@flemishdog.bsky.social speaking of aspect ratios, i was looking at a superjesus music video from 2003 on the bonus DVD that came with the CD (how 2000s), and it was 2.33:1 letterboxed into a 16:9 frame, then horizontally squashed to 4:3.
Ahhhhh. So shoot 4:3, protect for vertical. Jeez, talk about back to the future.
It absolutely blows my mind that now that "widescreen" is normal, that there's now 4:3 adverts all over the shop.
It's the "you know together we're glowing" line from Golden that gets me every damn time.
Not just in my head, but forever in the real world bsky.app/profile/only...
There's only one thing worse than a 128 kbps mp3 download from 2008, and that's one where the independent artist accidentally reversed the polarity of the vocal in the right channel. So it completely disappears in mono, or breaks your brain in stereo.
I came for the three songs Nirvana did, I stayed for the instrumentals. Aurora Borealis, now there's a tune.
I understand that I am years late to the party, but i was paying for petrol the other day and heard those magical octave jumps in Pink Pony Club properly for the first time.

I am now more than making up for the time I didn't know it. youtu.be/GR3Liudev18

Oh geez, this could be half the list for me again. So let's have the ones that got the shit played out of them on hot nights.

3 - Adore
2 - Ocean Songs
1 - To Venus and Back
Sitting up with a warm drink trying to get tired after visiting ghosts of the past today. And driving past something I'd never seen or heard of being built before, but seeing it today and realising I'd seen it in a dream a few months back.

My goodness I'm feeling this today, after visiting some of those ghosts. You put it into words so well.

The thing about visiting places from childhood is it’s like a geographical haunting. Moments long gone, slipped away, but the place is still there
