I regret that I never saw him sing live. His easy baritone was one of the best sounding things in this world - but his higher, agitated voice was incredibly stirring.

Mine was my dad's tapes in the back of the car, but mostly the This Land Australia album that tied in with the TV series in the late 80s.

On all of her other material she sings in her natural American accent just like that, but it's just the one outtake of that song (not online, sorry) where she sings "cahnt" - perhaps she heard it and went "nope, don't like that, not doing that again, don't care".

And it fascinated me, because how did it happen? Did someone say "can you try singing it as "cahnt?". And us and English people so often change our vowels to an American accent in music, how often does it go the other way?

Anyway last year, a record of her outtakes and rarities was released, and it had that song with a different vocal take, in which she pronounces "can't" the way the English, or we would. First, it stood out massively because I wasn't used to it, but it also fascinated me.

A couple of years back i listened to the album this was from a lot, so I got very used to it. She was an American singer in London, London musicians etc. Anyway, in the second chorus there's a "can't" pronounced the American way. youtu.be/J1NV2ZRMgII

Yes, it's been great - and the background on previous times people tried to govern without supply was very good too. I only found her channel this year, very interesting for non-partisan discussion of constitutional and parliamentary issues.
