Multiple friends have caught COVID recently, including some of my more cautious pals. There are a lot of winter germs in crowded places right now, fam. Personally, I never feel that shopping or riding transit unmasked is worth potentially getting sick. You can always renew this practice.

Bad Bunny’s performance began in the plantation, featured broken electric poles, and ended by centering a hemispheric understanding of “América”—among many other things—and some Anglo journalists are like “his performance wasn’t political.”

This is why we need to be telling our stories.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

Watching Funny Games (1997) for the first time. I know brutal is the usual descriptor prefacing this one, but damn. Brutal. Not even only in expectedly gruesome ways, but in the uncomfortably close proximity to grief and sheer trauma. Talk about nihilistic.

"There is a blood trauma here, seeing masked federal agents walking down our streets waiting to pick people up,” - Mary LaGarde of American Indian Center in Minneapolis. At least two of her relatives have been stopped and questioned by immigration agents.

Reviewing video from Fulton County elections raid.

Taken aback by the dismissive & sneering attitude from FBI agents toward the cop politely asking to see the warrant.

Looked him up: He's an immigrant w/ a doctorate in philosophy. His thesis? "Force by police officers toward African Americans."

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Demons (1985)

I love a good horror movie in the theater. Some kind of meta moments are always fun, and demons is a good... if nonsensical time.
It's all about the gross outs, kills and gore with this one. Leave story beats at the door.

Anyone else seen this one? Any fans? Haters?

Idc how many people repost that Kwame Ture quote. Nonviolent resistance is resisting foremost, i.e. agitating/disrupting/divesting. It's not asking nicely and depending on your opponent having a conscience. If a tactic doesn't challenge power, how is it resistance? (Yes I know there was a context)

I feel like, I'll be properly shocked, if I am told of how many cures for diseases have been found by scientists, and then swept under the rug by western capitalists.

NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.
