Thought I’d bought plenty of records already, then I walked into Disk Union. If anyone is looking for an original copy of Dolly Mixture - Demonstration Tapes, they’ve got it: for ¥38,850 ($244)

Went to a gig the other night at Namba Bears in Osaka. Saw Usurabi (discovered via French label An’archives), herpiano and 長濱礼香. Dig that K Records badge on the herpiano bassist’s strap. Cool sounds across the bill from indie pop to psych-folk to experimental soundscapes.

Picked up a copy of Indie Pop Lesson 2 by Twee Grrrls Club at Disk Union in Osaka yesterday. Impeccable taste! They’re hip to the latest indie underground sounds and feature a number of musical pals. @slumberlandrecords.com @precrecs.bsky.social @chimeschool.bsky.social @krecs.bsky.social

Thanks for the PSA, I guess. Kind of unnecessary, tho.

hidden gem of denver: the zine library located in the RiNo branch of the denver public library. they were super nice to open it up for us on a off day, and spent hours reading all kinds of random thoughts, niche interests, and indie culture. will definitely be back!

My New Year's Eve @khuh.bsky.social broadcast of my favorite LPs and EPs of 2025 is now online, an hour of nothing but hits, incl perhaps a couple of surprises? Check it out: www.mixcloud.com/nstop/2025-f...

While I ended up catching the B-52's the following June, on New Year's Eve 1989 I was seeing experimental combo Birdsongs of the Mesozoic at a free First Night concert in Boston. First time seeing any members of Mission of Burma (Martin Swope, in this case) perform live.
If you need something later to send this year packing, and in light of the various MTV music-only channels worldwide shutting down, why not when the B-52s put paid to the 1980s as a whole? (This was recorded November 1989 for later broadcast, but hey, you do what you can.)

Next year's Jerkfest lineup just announced, and it's a doozy. Current Aussie faves like Dumbells, rocky, R.M.F.C. and Hedge Burners mixed w/vets like EXEK, Nicole Thibault (Minimum Chips) and The Cannanes. (Also, a one-off reunion by The Blinds!?)

This is now the third time a Discogs database entry of mine has gotten belatedly merged with an existing one, all bc the guys submitting these things have issues correctly ID-ing colors of labels/vinyl. It's a thing! www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/brai...

Fascinating history of the Indie Top 20 series. Essential (if incomplete) samplers of the 80s UK indie charts in the pre-Internet era, esp for those of us here in the US that couldn’t afford to buy a bunch of imports.
They do, yes - they were just rebadged. I actually did a whole blog about these years ago and Chet Selwood, who set up the series with his sister Bee, got in touch and gave me a bunch of information:
