You can just buy a pound of cheese. They’ll sell it to you without an ID. They don’t even ask what you’re going to do with it.

This is good reporting on the disaster in Alaska if you're looking for a reliable summary.

This is a bigger disaster than I think most are realizing. 1500 people have been displaced by the flooding with an exceptionally complicated response and recovery.

It's #LastFourFriday, and I cannot stop chuckling at the Dudes Rock double feature of The Godfather and Magic Mike XXL
October's donation is to @evlovesnyc.bsky.social because I saw @prisonculture.bsky.social is starting a fundraiser for it. I love when Bluesky brings my attention to an organization I didn't know exist.
I promised myself that I would try to donate $100 to charity every month because the election has me feeling totally helpless. I'm gonna try to hold myself accountable. This month I donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank. I'm open to suggestions for worthwhile charities for future months.

My birthday is Sunday and for as long as I can remember I have used that occasion to raise needed funds for a project, organization or person. This year is no different. I have a goal of raising $5000 by 10/20 for EvLovesNYC @evlovesnyc.bsky.social - If you can & want to, please support this project

I was talking with a friend last night about A House of Dynamite, the new Kathryn Bigelow film about the idea of a rogue nuke being launched at Chicago. And she brought up the RT score in the 80s and the Metacritic score at 80, and did we all watch the same movie? I hated that movie so vigorously!
I'm trying to come up with ideas for things that go further than he's already gone. Maybe ordering the Marines into Chicago instead of the National Guard? The amount of bribery on full display can't really be topped. His crushing of the Constitution can be seen from space. What's left?
I feel like the opportunity for a water bed joke has been missed here.

Last night I watched the new Kathryn Bigelow Netflix movie A House of Dynamite. I can't remember the last time I walked out of a movie theater this angry at a movie. Everything about it is bad.
I watched a new movie called The Plague tonight. It's a movie about bullying among middle school-aged boys. I don't think I've ever been triggered by a piece of media before, but this did a number on me.
September's donation is a bit late, but @fooddepository.bsky.social is the lucky winner this month because Chicago deserves something good, even if it's as insignificant as my $100.

The world is crumbling, but at least the #LastFourFriday is a welcome distraction. Movies continue to be good.

A Shot in the Dark

(the actual answer is La Strada, but the next to last thing I watched is A Shot in the Dark and it fits the prompt much better)
I am once again begging (BEGGING) ever indie theater or festival programmer to remember that not every movie after 9 PM has to be for sickos. Some of us just can't get out until the kids are asleep.
You can tell I'm not having a normal one because I willingly drove through Allston on a Friday night to go to a movie.
This week's #LastFourFriday has two great films, two good not great films, two I watched on streaming, and two I watched in theaters. And yet those categories do not line up neatly. Weird how that worked out.
My in-laws could not be more of a stereotype if it was possible. They spent all dinner complaining about how spicy the potatoes were. The potatoes were seasoned with black pepper.
I guess my entire argument boils down to a question of whether punching the bully in the nose will get him to punch you even harder. I clearly don't know enough about the history, but if there's precedent for Russia not responding, then I'm suddenly much more interested in this action.
I think the steps that Putin is taking to escalate things and the escalation of responding to them are different levels. Shooting down a fighter jet feels like an actual escalation into war between NATO and Russia. Or do you read that action differently?
No. There's a part of me that says "Putin is overextended anyway, now's the time to force him to put up or shut up" but I can't imagine actually wanting to start any war, even I think it would be strategically advantageous.
I was kinda freaking out in my head for no particular reason, and then I had lunch and it calmed things down significantly. So please remember to both take breaks and to keep yourself fed. It's worth it.
I really like this week's #LastFourFriday. Not nearly as international as I might like, but no two movies from the same decade, spans 80 years, and all bangers. Good times.
