Hi everyone! 👋
I am Norbert, a Data Architect and #photography enthusiast living in #Tokyo. I will post my photography, musings about learning Japanese, impressions from Tokyo cafés, and other random things. よろしくお願いします。
All the photos below were shot on film with a Mamiya 6 medium-format camera.
At Shibamata in Tokyo, Japan, pedestrians are watching the staff of a Yakitori stall going about their food preparations. A close-up photo of the reclining Buddha statue at Nanzo-in Temple in Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture. During cherry blossom season, Hikone Castle in Shiga Prefecture is seen through a natural frame of pinkish-white branches of cherry blossoms. During dusk along "Star Road" in Asagaya, Tokyo, patrons are sitting inside an Izakaya, and we can see a whole lane of pubs and eateries extending into the background of the image.

Hi from #Japan! I’ve been in and around #Niigata yesterday and today. Here is today’s lunch of a delicious bowl of Soba noodles at a traditional place in Minamionuma. Second photo is a candid shot of another customer.

Cheers Colin! We had actually considered this as a lunch alternative, but ultimately went with the soba as we had already had some koshihikari rice at the hotel breakfast buffet this morning. Maybe next time though! 🍙

Just as a confirmation from a native German speaker, the translation is correct 😀

Great artwork, Nick, as always.
Thanks very much, Nate! 🙌

Good evening from #Tokyo!

The #BlueSkyArtShow theme this weekend is #Glow, for which I found this specimen on my camera roll.

#Itabashi Ward, #Tokyo, #Japan.

My favorite academic book is “Data Model Patterns” (1996) - its cover isn’t a banger like some in this 🧵, but I like it. Dave Hay is a legend in the field, and the concepts in his book are still relevant today. I had sent an email thanking him for the book in 1997, and he most graciously replied.
Book Cover of “Data Model Patterns - Conventions of Thought” (1996) by David C. Hay. On the cover illustration, moonlight is falling into a room through the window, lighting up a rectangular spot that says “moon” (representing a model of the moon). A wolf (or is it a model of a wolf) seems to be howling at both the real moon and its model.

Yes, they're big on "kurobuta" dishes down there. 😋
Good morning from #Japan!

#Kagoshima on #Kyushu is often compared with its Italian sister city Naples due to a similarly mild climate, relatively hot-tempered inhabitants and the presence of Mt. Sakurajima, an active volcano.

Might as well have read your ALT text, sorry 🤨
Have a good day, and take it slowly 🐢

Love the photo. Toji?
Hello from #Tokyo - a nice, not-too-hot early autumn day today.

On a similar day in 2005, I took this photo looking towards Lake Agnes Teahouse across the lake in #Banff National Park, #Alberta, #Canada.

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.
Yeah, don’t get me started about the “influenzas”. 🤐
Thanks! Yanaka is pretty nice, too, although more and more impacted by incessant crowds of tourists.
Good evening from #Japan!

I needed to see some #Green today, so I went to #Kunitachi in western #Tokyo. Hitotsubashi University campus and some of the older buildings remind me of Stanford Univ. in California.

Feeling exactly the same way. Take care of yourself, mate, your mental health and happiness comes first ✨
