Hi everyone! 👋
I am Norbert, a Data Architect and #photography enthusiast living in #Tokyo. I will post my photography, musings about learning Japanese, impressions from Tokyo cafés, and other random things. よろしくお願いします。
All the photos below were shot on film with a Mamiya 6 medium-format camera.
At Shibamata in Tokyo, Japan, pedestrians are watching the staff of a Yakitori stall going about their food preparations. A close-up photo of the reclining Buddha statue at Nanzo-in Temple in Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture. During cherry blossom season, Hikone Castle in Shiga Prefecture is seen through a natural frame of pinkish-white branches of cherry blossoms. During dusk along "Star Road" in Asagaya, Tokyo, patrons are sitting inside an Izakaya, and we can see a whole lane of pubs and eateries extending into the background of the image.

Arriving on the premises of Kodaiji. Many people flock to these "light-ups" (as they are called in Japanese) at the peak of the season. At the Dry Garden (karesansui) of Kodaiji, there was a vibrant illumination with a rotation of striking colors. The colorful reflections off the still surface of the pond were the highlight of the visit for me. There is a small bamboo forest on the temple premises, that was also illuminated to great effect.

Komaya Old Games Arcade The shop was run by a couple in their eighties, and featured an eclectic collection of mostly mechanical arcade games from the 1960s onwards. They also had a lot of boardgames and small toys. Japonais A cake shop run by an elderly owner. He had a lot of regular customers that loved buying his fluffy layered cakes filled with fruits and whipped cream. Kenzo Taiyaki This shop sold some of the best (and biggest) Taiyaki I ever had in Tokyo. Sadly, it was demolished (along with some adjacent older buildings) to make place for a modern medical facility. Yamasa Bookstore A typical Showa-times neighborhood bookstore selling literature, magazines, drinks and some other knick-knacks as fancied by the owner.

I used to live in the countryside of southwestern #Germany. Orchards, fields and migrant flocks of sheep abounded. #Autumn there hit differently, and was photogenic in a subtler way than in Japan. 🍂

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.
