A Rainy Day in Fall Colors 🍁☔️

I visited Shinnyo-do Temple in Sakyo Ward to see the fall foliage today. There were only a few tourists, so I was able to take many photos.

I got so fed up of hearing ppl at work bleating on about using this for weightloss. Not one of them could answer my question: "What happens when you stop taking it?" ...and here we are! If it's crucial for your health I get it, but what if you can't afford it?

My experience in retail has taught me that Black Friday is basically an excuse to clear out all the old stock at "reduced" prices, except the actual prices would be lower anyway 🤷🙄
And yes, I'm sure somewhere someone will get a "deal" on something, but overall...don't fall for the con!

So a while back I was commissioned to do short bios of various rock stars, and they were just about universally total psychopaths, with the huge exception of Freddie Mercury. A lovely man who did good by his wife, his lovers, and his cats.
Today (24 November) marks the passing of Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. He remains regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music.

Hey, here's a 🧵 collecting my historical 🧵s:

First up is a story from the life of Killin' Jim Miller: a church-going family man & hired assassin who wore a makeshift bulletproof vest under his long black frock coat & would "cut anyone in half with a shotgun for $150"

In A Fistful of Dollars, "Joe" uses a piece of metal as a makeshift bulletproof vest.

Did anything like this ever happen in the actual Old West?

Yes.

Here's a brief 🧵 on "Deacon Jim"...

Autumn Leaves in Kyoto 2025 🍁

Anrakuji Temple—nestled beside Hōnen-in and just off the Philosopher’s Path—is a serene spot known for its lush fresh greenery in spring and its stunning autumn foliage.

The large maple tree at the entrance is now glowing in its vibrant peak colors.

This thread is 🔥🔥🔥
On May 11, 1950, while working on the Rawlins National Bank in Wyoming, a construction crew unearthed a whiskey barrel that contained a human skeleton with its skull cap sawed off & an odd pair of shoes. Dr. Lillian Heath, now in her 80s, was asked if she knew anything about it...🧵

Sekizan Zenin Temple
Nestled in the foothills of northern Kyoto, Sekizan Zenin is a sub-temple of Enryakuji founded in 888. It enshrines Sekizan Myōjin, the guardian deity of the Tendai school, and stands in the northeast “kimon” direction of the Imperial Palace—long believed to protect the city.

Waiting to see what my pay will be from work on Fri. It's a horrible guessing game because while payroll have informed me I will only be getting 'half pay' due to sickness, I don't actually know how much and all my email requests remain unanswered ☹
Added money worries are not helping my recovery 😕
