In Part 2 of “Sick in a Hospital Town,” we look at how a century-old community hospital in Albany, Georgia, became the only hospital in town — and grew into a sprawling health care system by waging a yearslong battle to eliminate its competition.

This list is great. I went through it and was a little ashamed that I was unaware of aftermath.site #pcgaming

Marisa's list is definitely worth taking a look at and the @aftermath.site site is amazing.

Thanks Marisa.

now we're talking, hell yeah
most traditional Polish ones are about Jesus and all that, not Santa Claus; one 18th century carol is actually the basis for the Poland theme in Civilization V

OMG, some of the fees are just ridiculous. Scientific Data, for example, is $2500 to publish an article describing your dataset. Data to be archived elsewhere.

I have definitely left some things as preprints for multiple reasons.

I'm doing this for three reasons:

1. Most Americans don't know a living scientist, and essentially 0% Americans have seen the process of applying for funding from the systems that Trump, RFK Jr., etc. are destroying. Come take a peek behind the curtain with me: a guy who isn't very good at this.

So, it's Monday, and there's no way to say this that doesn't sound stupid, so I'm just going to come out and say it: I've decided to Twitch stream the entire writing of an NIH R01 proposal, and you can follow along at twitch.tv/ColinDoesScience

I'm only doing this because they messed up science real bad forever

IMHO Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band should reform with the sole purpose of covering this song
3rd kind: "Historic" European carols "Santa Claus lets naughty children freeze outside la la la - and wives, too, if they don't bake lots of delicious cakes, ho ho ho!" (Austro-Hungarian, c. 1822) ;)

Listen Europeans, I know you're there , roughly 10 hours in the future, in your relatively stable countries with more than two and change centuries of history, relaxing at the end of your day with an espresso and a vape pen and a vermouth.

Prove me wrong:
The 2 types of European Christmas Carols:

1. Literal translation of an American carol, "Hev Und Holy Joly Krestfisk", recorded by the Icelandic Ersatz Burl Ives & His Bells Orchestra in 1952

2. Cover of Jingle Bells by the Fanta Girls at Eurovision, blasting out of a Monoprix at 830 am on Sunday

1/4 Cockatoos are winning the trash can war against Australians

Human motivation to protect them falls five times faster than cockatoos' motivation to open them, and increasing protections makes cockatoos better at it.

So love wobbegongs. Everything is good about the wobbegong. Its name. Its flattened Oscar the Grouch face. Its frondy bits. Its lazy life as a hungry rug. And it’s a shark. Outstanding animal 10/10
The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

I can relate to terns. They will fly thousands of miles to enjoy summer. I do the same.
