I got airline crud that became a double ear infection so I lost a few weeks, but NOW it's game time. Job apps going out! 💪

What pisses me off here is them acting like they added said "new tools" out of the goodness of their hearts and not because parents sued the absolute fuck out of them.

Never believe a corporation that tries to tell you it's safety tools weren't written in blood.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

1. Good at pattern recognition

2. Adverse to change

So if you have an autistic employee who sees a worrisome pattern, worrisome enough that they upend their carefully planned schedule to jump ship from your company?

Someone got hurt, and the top brass stopped trusting branch-level leadership with the issue, and of course the changes they had to make cost them way more money and employees than if it said changes been written in blood.

I'm not trained in risk assessment. I'm just good at seeing big pictures.

In the most recent situation for me personally, I told leadership at my local branch of a large corporation of a growing trend in the way they were running things that was going to lead to someone getting hurt if it wasn't addressed.

I got brushed off and guess what happened within 3 months?

I have heard this from autistic people and I have been this autistic person more times than I can count: they try to tell a leader there's a problem, get dismissed as being The Needlessly Anxious One™, they quit, and then they hear from co-workers who stayed that things soon went to shit.

If you have an autistic employee, generally speaking, that is your canary in your coal mine. If they are considering quitting or do quit, you need to take why VERY seriously because it's probably about to bite you in the ass. 🧵
