I get that you're trying to help, and it IS true that some parents can think they love their kids and still be abusive, but actually fuck the idea that all parents "tried their best". Popping out a kid doesn't magically turn you into someone who tries their best.

THIS. I'm in a group for people with abusive parents and some of the horrific stuff people come in with wondering if they were "really abused" is absolutely tragic. Part of an abuser's prerogative is to make you feel that other people had it worse.

"But that's your mom-" yeah which makes it all the more pathetic on her part that she didn't act like one so badly that someone biologically predisposed to want a relationship with her had to cut ties.
