yeah, true. i tend to get these huge waves of self-doubt, but it's important to trust yourself and your process
neonufo.bsky.social
yeah, the business/contract aspect was what put me off from even considering webtoon/tapas, i just want a platform to put a comic on. from the limited insight i have atm, comicfury reminds me a bit of old deviantart, i think that's why i'm so fond of it lmao, reminder of a simpler time
neonufo.bsky.social
every project takes ten times longer than it should when you have to juggle it with survival 👍
neonufo.bsky.social
but i've also done so much and spent 6 years chipping away at it, the script is 2/3 done & letting it go would feel like a betrayal of myself because it feels like i always do this. i'm hoping that once the script is finished and i get to drawing, i will regain the passion that dulled along the way
neonufo.bsky.social
i've been on-again-off-again working on a story for a comic between various other projects and commissions and i am now at a point where i am unsure if it's any good at all bc i've been staring at it for so long, and my interests really shifted to other themes lately
neonufo.bsky.social
ah, i dont really have any insight on page resizing tbh
what draws me to comic fury is that apparently people are really happy to interact & that feels hard to come by online nowadays, which is why it's high on my radar for when i get my comic started, i miss active communities.
neonufo.bsky.social
what about comic fury? i heard good things about it & it's been around for a long time, apparently has an active community too

like i dont mind at all when people ask for sketch changes, that's literally the reason i send sketches. that's what that step of the commission is For. and yet
neonufo.bsky.social
imagine not constantly having anxiety about stupid things such as: looking at a sketch that an artist i commissioned sent me, because i'm scared that i wouldn't like it and would have to slightly inconvenience them by asking for changes, which, as we know, is the worst thing anyone could ever do.

absolutely beautiful, clearly influenced by the french comic series The Ogre Gods but nonetheless amazing

goeblins always kills it because their teams are made of students who specialize in like color direction or rough animation or final lineart etc instead of doing a whole thing themselves

People who think the idea of "give me ideas" is something genuinely creative people want have literally never experienced the absolute EUPHORIA of a brainstorming breakthrough, either solo or with a human collaborator. They don't understand what is happening when artists create, on a basic level.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I think what's impressive about TRON is that, visually, it's still so much more interesting than any of it's sequels. It's crazy that they tried update this digital world by making it as 'realistically rendered' as possible. It's a complete misunderstanding of the original's charm.

I designed a couple of outfits for my sword & sorcery characters, Ire and Skinner! Both of these are casual looks, and I'll be posting four others at a later date. <:

(character backgrounds and outfit descriptions in alt text)
#art #ocart #fantasy #fantasyart #characterdesign
IRE (he/him)
Ire's people (the Odgor) from the steppes lean very vibrant because a lot of their culture and religion is based around rare precious metals that come in many colours. They also utilize a lot of the colourful furs and leathers of their native fauna. Because they are known far and wide across the continent, the members of the tribe usually try to be well put together, to be a good representation of their goddess. Ire often wears a wrist brace on his left wrist.

IRE OUTFIT 1 (CASUAL) - Ire's first casual outfit is a black top of a stretchy fabric, a large medallion necklace, shorts and tall sandals. There is also a piece of fabric hanging off the front of his waist to add a splash of colour.

SKINNER (he/him)
Skinner is a traveler, banished from his tribe (the Nakrí) for practicing blasphemy, so his outfits are a bit of a mishmash of different styles. His original homeland is on the cold ocean cliffs and has a more spiritual culture. Skinner is a blood mage and needs to paint himself in blood in order to use his magic.

SKINNER OUTFIT 1 (CASUAL) - Skinner made the top and skirt of this outfit himself while living in the wilderness, and it's made of locks of matted fur. He's wearing old leather boots of a peculiar design of his tribe, the Nakrí, where the belt and brooch also origin from. The brooch in particular is a symbol of blood mages, which Skinner proudly wears in spite of being exiled for his taboo use of blood magic. IRE OUTFIT 2 (CASUAL) - While the first outfit is an everyday sort of look for the Odgor people, the second one, while not an armour, is more fit for adventuring. The top is made of leather, giving a little protection, along with the metal harness across his chest. The outfit has a thick belt and a colourful furred skirt, and the usual Odgor sandals.

SKINNER OUTFIT 2 (CASUAL) - A more practical costume for traveling the land, this outfit includes a tunic and shorts. The tunic features sleeves and collar of a distinct Nakrí design - made of a twisted silk material.

Back from my little vacation, and here are Ire and Skinner's battle and ceremonial outfits!

(outfit descriptions in alt text)
#art #ocart #fantasy #fantasyart #characterdesign
IRE (battle attire)
Ire's battle armour is that of an Odgor tribal champion. It's vibrantly coloured in the infamous Odgor metals which are as beautiful as they are tough. His collar piece and his axe both have an abstract decoration, a popular metalwork design among his people. The sleeves are made of scaled leather, and the thick wires protruding from the best to the back are purely aesthetic. (The wires are a leftover from Ire's original concept which was much heavier on sci-fi elements, thus his armour used to have tubes. They no longer serve a functional purpose, but I liked the silhouette of them, so I decided to just make it a decorative element)

SKINNER (battle attire)
When getting ready for combat Skinner wears sort of a mishmash of things he picked up on the way. He again wears his matted fur skirt and old boots, but his top is replaced by a scaled leather shirt, and additionally padded with a scarf which covers his head as well. He also wears a metal helmet. In battle, Skinner marks more of his skin with blood, particularly his face and thighs.
IRE (ceremonial attire)
As before, this outfit is also made predominantly of metal in many colours. While Odgor are known for their metals, they generally don't use it for frivolous things, as they are very stingy when it comes to mining their holy mountain. Thus, their highly valuable ceremonial costumes use thin, small pieces of vibrant metal as opposed to something bigger. The shape of a triangle is significant to Odgor culture and heavily utilized in this outfit. (The idea of a dress made of small pieces of metal came from Paco Rabanne's futuristic chainmail dresses)

SKINNER (Ceremonial attire)
A traditional ceremonial Nakrí attire is a long grey tunic, the bottom half of which is covered in red and green tassels and red drop-shaped gems. He also wears jewelry, a thick scarf of the Nakrí silken twist, loose silk pants and simple shoes with a slightly upturned tip. On his head is a peculiar, simple but elegant metal head piece with horns. His arms are not painted in blood, but the upper half of his face is painted red, and he is also wearing red lipstick and nail polish to match it.

And here's the last set, desert and winter styles.

(outfit descriptions in alt text)
#art #ocart #fantasy #fantasyart #characterdesign
IRE (Desert outfit)
The Odgor's desert costumes are made of simple light cloth to protect them from the sun, but they still enjoy adding decoration, such as an undershirt made of bright ribbons.

SKINNER (Desert outfit)
Unlike the Odgor, who live in a relative vicinity of a desert, the Nakrí don't have their own clothing for this sort of biome, so Skinner's costume is sourced from the locals. He wears loose, flared pants with thigh-high slits, woven sandals, and a wide-brimmed, tall-tipped wizard hat. He is not wearing a shirt. IRE (Winter outfit)
Ire's winter outfit consists of a boxy wool jacket with corduroy-like sleeves and leather-padded shoulders and cuffs. There is metal decoration on the front, and a knitted sweater underneath. In winter even the Odgor wear pants, or more accurately, tights made out of soft leather. The sandals are replaced with green leather boots.

SKINNER (Winter outfit)
Skinner wears a poncho featuring the Nakrí silk collar as well as a wild fur collar. The poncho also has a pointed hood. Underneath he wears thick pants and knee-height furred boots. His hands are warmed by three-fingered gloves.
