The more I've personally thought about these issues, the more I think we should all be looking at UPs not (just) as funded but as directly FUNDING fields that unis have all but abandoned. Monographs cost more to make than they earn. UPs are putting $$ DIRECTLY where unis don't.

I asked my students last semester and this semester to practice handwriting for their note taking (in class and for homework).
Today, they were doing some intensive note taking in small groups so I said it’s OK if it’s easier to type. 4/5 groups still chose handwriting. And it’s readable, y’all.
