Hello #PortfolioDay! I'm Rebecca, a science and medical illustrator who loves birds and other feathered creatures 🐡🪶🧪
This is a person who makes a lot of fantastic spoons, but these are instantly my new favorites!
A repost...

'Eel Conceived' ~ Wooden spoon carved in Sapele wood with 30,000 year old Kauri base.

I was halfway through this project before I realized the title implied an offspring.

The last image is the original sketch as the idea occurred.

Artwork for cards I made this year, featuring a Bohemian Waxwing. Stamped from a linocut, which I'm still pretty new at. I have a small number of extras, if anyone would like one message me!

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

Steve isn’t here anymore, but he always posted this picture on Hanukkah so I thought we could carry on his tradition and remember him.
Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

It's worth sharing the negative side of living with a parrot sometimes. Louie was in a mood today and bit me hard twice, the way he did the first several months after I adopted him. This is after about a week of being grumpy in the morning. All birds are good birds, but this is what you sign up for.

Painters, would it be weird if I cut down my one long brush that drives me crazy? Are sawn-off brushes a thing?

Paleocolor news! This is one of my absolute favorite areas of study. It's beyond mindblowing that we can learn these things about animals no human will ever see.
While the paper hasn't come out just yet, the news certainly has. Proud to announce our discovery of color patterning in a sauropod dinosaur. Will go in depth tomorrow.

Love to see the Sedgwick County Zoo putting out a good explainer on why GenAI slop videos of animals are a problem & how to identify them! It’s succinct, easy to read, and doesn’t shame people for not knowing better. A+ useful link to share with family and friends.
