"We’re creating something even more dangerous to the country: A masked monster of a law enforcement agency, one uniquely unsuited for its new power, authority, reach, and funding levels."
Spending $200 billion on ICE is a terrible idea
I've covered federal law enforcement for two decades. Here are the things that worry me most.

[5/5] There's a strong tension between the theory of voluntary corporate mobilization & the pace of decarbonization we need. Hybrid initiatives like #sbti continue to have a role but their impact depends on how they're leveraged (and influenced) by different political actors w competing goals.
[4/5] The SBTi helps shape norms that are broadly adopted across the private sector. They face immense pressure to compromise on science in the name of "feasibility." But, with the exodus of most large banks from programs like the NZBA, is SBTi catering to an increasingly hollowed out middle?
[3/5] So it's notable that @sciencebasedtargets.org's new #netzero standard requires FIs to cease both project AND corporate-level finance/insurance activities linked to FF expansion. However, while project finance must be immediately addressed, corporate-level finance must only be ceased by 2030.
[2/5] Most ESG commitments from the financial sector address "project finance" (such as loans) to new fossil fuel projects. But over 90% of banks' financing to the FF industry is channeled through "corporate-level" activities, multiple analyses show. bit.ly/4l5L6op bit.ly/45dNXWn
[1/5] There's a loophole in most banks' fossil fuel policies. It's like "saying they would never directly invest in cigarettes, but are happy to provide billions to tobacco companies” (h/t @makemymoneymatter.bsky.social for the quote)
This strongly challenges the gas industry's greenwashing and raises the possibility that future U.S. administrations could rescind LNG export authorizations in defense of the public interest. Check out full details at the report link above (2/2)
Let’s get this 💪💪💪
I'm proud I don't have Andrew Cuomo's record of corruption, scandal and disgrace.

And the name is M-A-M-D-A-N-I.

Anti-ICE organizing in New York City:

People who showed up to the federal immigration building, referred to as just ‘26 Federal Plaza’ or ‘FP’ to protest & stop ICE from transferring people they arrested, were blocked by NYPD at numerous intervals for low level infractions.

At least 50 of those men were here in the US legally and never violated immigration law.
Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

ICE threatening charges against people for asking supposed officers to show their badges is weakness. Not succeeding where they hoped to, left relying on threats that likely won’t go anywhere in court (harassment isn’t nothing, but it’s limited).

It’s a sign to resist their abuses more, not less.

Men in plainclothes, one in a balaclava, raided the Charlottesville courthouse today. They abducted a local painter whose case (allegedly fighting with his roommate) was being dismissed, and another who was there paying fines. They took them away in unmarked vans.

"the president defied a Supreme Court ruling to return a man mistakenly sent to a gulag... and spoke of sending Americans to foreign concentration camps.
This is the beginning of an American policy of state terror, and it has to be identified as such to be stopped"
