Our education systems are colonial too, they intentionally suppress the truth to continue the genocide & oppression in perpetuity unchecked. We can all see the clown car is balancing on the head of a pin after 200+ years of theft & violence. My book is easy to find online & I’ll post a link!

I mean the kids get a week off of school and people don’t have to work, no reason not to celebrate precious time together! And in a good way that furthers your own connections to your cultural background & traditions & erodes colonial narratives & supports Wampanoag people & local Native issues.

If you’re in CA, I have a full slate of those feast recipes in my book. The main thing is that it’s not a pan-Indian holiday, we don’t all want to participate in it. But I’m glad that you want to decenter the colonizers & recenter the Wampanoag & connect to other types of fall feast traditions.

I don’t celebrate it as a US holiday, but it falls around the Karuk new year, a big gathering, feasting, harvesting time. And I live in the Bay Area & like to join the prayers at Sunrise Ceremony on Alcatraz, then people can stop by my house afterward on their way home for a feast & nap.

One thing I keep in mind is that the Thanksgiving betrayal happened to the Wampanoag, not every tribe in the US experienced that event. The original meal in that act of generosity & kinship is made from their traditional foods. Squashes, turkeys, corn, etc. Many Native people don’t celebrate it.

i laughed so unexpectedly at this that I spit out a crunchberry and that made me laugh even harder & then I remembered something else that happened earlier (I drove away from the gas station with the hose still attached) and i am crying i can’t stop laughing and corn is everything else 😂

You don’t go to Target because a child might be loud? Yikes. My kids are raised too but I still enjoy being part of society & creating a safe space for children to have emotions near me. I want parents to know their children are no bother, learning to regulate our feelings is really hard.

I love locking eyes with a toddler who is about to lose their shit & whispering “do it, let it out, you’re right this IS bullshit” and their eyes get big like they’re seeing the devil herself. Yes babes release your howls unleash the darkness rend the fabric of our eardrums and cleanse this Target.
