People in my generation endure a lot of stress bridging these impossible canyons, our therapy bills are colossal. I see us. Take heart, we are managing to pass some batons in this generational relay race. I'm in my deadly auntie/zia era & now I know these knowledges will endure & grow beyond me 💗🤌🏻

I learn from my Mother who learned from her Grandmothers (skipped her father, boarding school generation) & Grandfathers. I pass it along to the college students who build projects that engage with even younger children and that is how we mend connection & grow as a people in the present? amazing.

I used to work for Girl Scouts (US Girl Guides) & I was proud of their inclusiveness, all were welcome! the point of the org is any person can be a leader. Leadership in the workplace, science, the home, whatever your future held you would be prepared. It’s what Juliette wanted. This is sickening.

This chart seems to skip over how bad colonization was for some people’s health.

I’ve had to adjust my talking points to use “mutual
aid” so people can connect that to community food security. Like as soon as people hear “community” their eyes glaze over. Mutual aid though? activate light bulbs.

Well, I know that in my family, a lot of the James Garner discourse really dropped off after my grandma died last year. But sure I can dish about this legend. Lorraine was partial to circa 1974 Rockford Garner (example seen here with binoculars & beige & navy suit.)

This dude has me in a chokehold, I loved the book of accidents too. It was so cleverly constructed. And the staircase in the woods was excellent AND the spooky apples book, just fine whatever sign me up for reading chuck wendig’s phone book I guess.

Stephon voice, yes yes yes if you’re ordinary and you love crying in the bathroom, Modern Warrior has it all.

Some of these performances are really impressive, it’s a shame we don’t give out awards for online ndns. They are always doing the most with their medium and I gotta respect that because I’m lazy af.

That is an excellent theme. Mine is “The Thankening” to cultivate a vaguely menacing vibe.

Anyway, thank the spirits for Chef Crystal Wahpepah, Kickapoo with a heart of gold. Her restaurant in Fruitvale is warm & the food is full of her history & life. Neem’s is right there too, a badass Indigenous woman (Palestine) who stands on cultural business. I like my food story-forward I guess lol

I promise I’m fun at parties & I can be light about food. I love it, it’s the source of my joy & community service. But occasionally I need to hit a vent button to let out the disappointment from all the sterilized privileged food takes my eyeballs are absorbing & inadvertently internalizing 😮‍💨

Foodways are full of blood & ongoing loss & sacred things. A recipe becomes a spell & a story, just look at any food blog. Their family is in there, they share their lives. But most people like it all sanitized, in a vacuum, keep the story & give me the thing I need. Make the extraction efficienct.

I can’t write about a chef or a dish or product & disconnect it from context in order to make it consumable. Food is political, land soil water air, it’s political & emotional. In this country I have to peel back the layers to understand who has been silenced. Because there’s always someone.
