I don't think I know too many people personally on here, so this may just disappear into the ether. But just in case, some personal news:
Hey all,

I have some heavy news to share unfortunately: I’ve recently been diagnosed with stage-four cancer. It originated in my colon but has spread to my liver and lungs as well. I’ll soon start chemotherapy, but the doctor has told me that I may only have several years left to live, if that. Of course, it could be the case that I respond really well to the chemotherapy, and this then opens up other options for treatment, but I was cautioned that this would be a very big surprise.

Still, I am staying positive. Not that I am holding out hope for a miracle cure, but rather that I am choosing to focus on all of the good things in life: the many amazing experiences and adventures I’ve had, and the meaningful relationships I’ve formed. I’ve had a really good life so far, and I’m treating any time left as a great bonus. So, while it is obviously a sad time, I’m mostly just feeling incredibly fortunate and grateful for everything. 🙌

Auspicious start for the new CBS News, laundering unattributed cop shit-talking through the incoming editor-in-chief’s blog and failing to correct a misspelling of the story subject’s name in the web headline for three days.

Atheists are by far the most progressive lifestance demographic when it comes to views on trans issues:

Coaches used to send out these elaborate signals to convey info to their players across the field... but it doesn't happen anymore, it seems. It's a shame!!

Mary Ann Shadd broke ground with her anti-slavery newspaper, The Provincial Freeman.
She was the first Black woman publisher in North America and the first female publisher in Canada.
She later recruited Black soldiers for the Union Army during the American Civil War.

I really like this phrase, "We welcome all who welcome all"

What does it mean to welcome all who welcome all? How can we describe secular communities’ inclusion, in ways that convey their distinctive values? Check out my latest post on humanist community organising, and reflections on Glasgow’s Sunday Assembly conference.

I feel like the main (only?) uses of this kind of technology are harassment and fraud. It's hard to even think of any positive uses to come from it aside from silly party tricks whose novelty wears off pretty quickly

One thing that comes through awfully clearly in these ICE videos is how many of these goons gravitated toward the job because being able to assault people with impunity is a big thrill for them.

Historians will look back at the US's slide into authoritarianism and note the dozens and dozens of times when elites not only did nothing to stop it, but actively facilitated it

I really detest this kind of conservative who is like, "isn't it funny when I say outlandish things that I may or may not actually believe? In any case, I am sufficiently privileged that any policies enacted would have no impact on me personally"
