It feels like 2026 could see perfect storms coming together for the COC - likely backlash against what is already an inadequate response to measles outbreak, backlash from parents regarding Stanfords ill thought out and rushed racist curriculum and possibly other stuff as well
the Ministry of Education is a white supremecist racist organisation, that needs deep deep reform
all the apparently top performing ministers in this group are fucking up big time, now we have a minister who wants to kill people in measles outbreak
sorry - I know how hard shutdowns can be.
Also - sorry that I was tone policing - I will reflect. Apologies - just in an early morning mood
I just want to also hear what the ideas are. I see success in small well funded local schools, small initiatives that work with communities, in community.
I totally agree that we need support in public schools, totally need to change where power is hold and empower enabling good lives, I believe we need better supports (the supports are not working), better training, and see it as dangerous to go back to institutionalisation or a boot camp.
Do I think this is a good idea, probably not, do I think labour sitting on improving funding allowing the government to shit on disabled community even more, then frame this as great.... no...
yes, I don't think the idea is great, do I think how things were been done by labour have led to this, fucking yes... and having a minister walk out previously on those raising concerns with ors funding - which opened the door to this shit house....
Labour - lets do nothing, Autism NZ - we will do something even if its flawed. Labour - lets walk out on a disabled group challenging our leader...
those who are attacking autism nz for setting up a school, your real anger should be at Labour who sat on ors reforms for the time they were last in government
As someone who works in mental health with autistic people and other nd young people one of the biggest causes of harm is the environment. But it shouldn't be just a charter school
Pushing for better expertise, deeper mental health support and supportive sensory and social environments
As someone who believes in alternative peadogody and has seen the benefits of it with my autistic whanau im open but I also beleive in social connection. I alsonworry this will be pushed on people who find the state system is abusive and shit for autistics
Ors is deeply underfunded and needs more funding. But also traditional school structures are not fit for purpose and need redesign. The biggest issue is this entrenched ablism
I also worry about entreenching abusive psychological practices such as aba and pba in nz
I have mixed opinions about a charter school for autistic people. I do have worries that this is going to go back to institutionalism
Also why are we not supporting our overwhelmed public schools and putting more funding in
Bayley should be out of parliament, he sounds like a complete bully
Prediction - nationals "curriculum" rewrite is this givts novopay fiasco
THE CURRICULIUM DEFENDS THE FUCKING SLAVE TRADE - IT IS COMPLETELY IMMORAL
if you care for children and teachers, particularly minorities, fight agains the fucking bullshit national curriculum which will harm disabled people and neurodiverse people even more
Labour are having policy talked about and that is important. Reality is that hipkins is not going to ne a radical prime minister second time around but the policy releases are realistic and deliverable
there have been two mistakes made over the same policy in the last week, Hipkins will need to look at labours campaign structure and his office
yeah.... it is really really stupid
Really frustrated at the fact it happened. Woods? Someone aligned with Parker?
