Species recovery comes in many forms. Targeted reintroductions, long term legal protection & habitat creation/restoration. All are as important as each other. It doesn’t matter how it’s done as long as it gets done. During our WeBS survey today we saw the benefits of all three methods. 🙌

A record 8 Water Pipit have been colour ringed by Stour Ringing Group this winter at RSPB Lytchett. This is part of a UK scheme to find out more about Water Pipit migration across Europe.

Our colour ringing season at Lytchett Bay is off to a great start with 5 Water Pipit & 5 Rock Pipit marked (under license) already. Please look out for yellow (Water) and white (Rock) marked birds and report all sightings 🙏 #Dorsetbirds

Surprisingly decent morning on Lytchett patch in continuing unhelpful weather. 5 Goosander were first of the year. Bar Wit, Green Woodpecker and Bullfinch all notable. CR head starter Curlew and Wigeon up to 530 (in the 90's they were almost a rarity here!) @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social #Dorsetbirds

Good news on Dorset Cirl Buntings continues to arrive. Early data from the breeding season confirms they are continuing to re-establish a population in the county. Please submit any outstanding records now. 🙏 In winter our focus switches to feeding flocks - please send us all sightings. 🙏

It all kicked off yesterday afternoon on North Ron with a Radde’s Warbler trapped at the obs! And then a Northern Bullfinch caught at HH

I didn’t think it could get any better until Alison and I found this Black-throated Thrush in a net during the roost catch!
