i do genuinely enjoy getting to watch interestingly-bad media made by human beings. sometimes there's good ideas in there, sometimes there's bafflingly bad ideas, but all of them were the work of other human beings.

We'll laugh about a kid's dad being "dizzy from hot sauce" (clearly sake) or "donuts" that are obv onigiri, b/c these were funny human decisions to make something english-speaking-kid friendly. We do this WHILE WE WATCH THEM. we would NEVER watch AI

And it worked. I got invested in so many early anime dubs, even the ones that were heavily-censored.
They cared a lot more than people like to admit about sharing real emotions. The Pokemon dub made me cry multiple times as a kid, even.

I had issues with some of the localization choices 4Kids made, but not their actors. The characters in their dubs always had personality, even if it wasn't necessarily a loyal representation of the personalities of the original Japanese version. These AI "dubs" have nothing *resembling* personality.

As far as the “clique” stuff in dubbing goes, most actors I know will think of VAs they already know or already work well with when casting projects - those same actors are also always open to new talent. It’s not “exclusive” or anything nefarious, just kind of how people work.

For those worried about too many cutscenes/voiced character dialog in a Metroid game, go back and play Prime 3 (like I just did). It's shocking that every 10 mins you're talking with someone or getting radio calls. Not sure why IGN and other outlets seemed to just forget that?
