My main characters in Seeing Magic had their first meeting detailed in my previous book, Being Magic. I have a story of how they met in a previous lifetime in in Jazz Age New Orleans. That fragment will become a short story or a gift for newsletter subscribers.

My main characters see the villain as a threat for their entire town and a metaphysical threat to their spiritual evolution.

I've thought about a similar character for my novels. I don't have the historical element that yours do to contend with, but I worry that my attempt would also be contrived or inorganic.

Her eyes, the brightest gem lumens in otherwise dark nights, illuminated the ground for all true searchers who walked in the hills surrounding the true lake. The dusk of searching grew long, but her eyes knew that finding was in our very walking itself.

I read Ray Bradbury’s books when I was young, and he was alive and I continue to read them now. His combination of vivid imagery and humanistic themes, even in his most fantastic fiction, has always inspired and moved me.

Here is a macro photo I took of our last bi-color snapdragon in the front garden. The day was beautifully grey and rainy. Though there was no chance of seeing a tropical sunset, this flower held the might of dusk's glory in its misty face. This scoop of autumn sherbert glows against green peeps of background bokeh. Bending in for a closer look with my camera, I became enchanted by the perfect spheres scattered across its pink-red-orange-yellow petals. Within each crystal ball raindrop, a small universe of color and light. Their augury? My new 3-5-3 haiku:

This week I continued to edit the main subplot in Seeing Magic. These are the “blue” chapters (that name will make sense when you read it). It’s important to the story and to Elana’s arc.
I also added to the first draft of Living Magic.

When I have moved on to my next life, I hope my books will help people to look deeper into themselves and see that they have more heart and more connection than they thought. I hope they are gentle reminders to look beyond maya and see themselves.
