We marched in heavily Latino Cicero IL including along a busy road. People honked horns took photos & video & showed support. & they felt seen & supported after our cities have been terrorized by ICE. Some drove past multiple times, passengers cheering & in tears. El pueblo unido jamás será vencido

The Supreme Court’s majority right wing indicated in oral arguments that they think racism is over on the same day that the vice president defended the “I love Hitler” guy, and that the NYT reported that the current administration plans to accept only white, English-speaking refugees.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

TFG admits he’s taking away freedom of speech … you know, that thing he boasted about bringing back.
"We took the freedom of speech away..." needs to be blasted across the nation.
Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

Hearing a docent at the Chicago History Museum say that residential segregation in the city is “mostly just economic now” and I almost bit my tongue off.

New Yorker cartoons nail it again.
Following his logic, since men are the ones committing these acts of political violence, maybe men aren’t mature enough to handle being exposed to new ideas in college. Should men be banned from college until they’re older?
As men no longer predominate on college campuses, the presence of women and people of color delegitimizes higher ed in the minds of those on the right. All that estrogen and melanin must mean something is amiss.
The new editor of CBS News looked at political violence in America, and confidently identified the "biggest culprits": the universities.
This is the perspective that Weiss is being hired to bring to a hard news outlet.

Fewer men are attending college, and violence is on the rise, so … following the logic … we blame women, of course, since they outnumber men in college, and the men who are attending must be especially prone to being swayed by their evil professors, so … do we ban men from college?

This reads like a JD Vance speech. Cast blame on those you don’t like, offer no evidence to support it, to distract people. I think the real blame falls on communists contaminating our precious bodily fluids. Or maybe space aliens. Ooh space alien communists. And they’re vegan.

I’m focusing on filling out very inch of wall space and putting toys on my desk. Now if only I could get students to come to office hours …
Trump says down is up, and mandates that university faculty may only teach that down is up. Someone teaches the basic fact that up is up, and gets fired. But hey Texas A&M is a great university … as long as you don’t plan on learning anything
As someone whose ancestors have been in the colonies/US for about 400 years, I reject this bullshit. I have no special claim to this place. I am organically bound to those who seek freedom and democracy.
What is an American?” Schmitt asked. It is a white person. America is a white homeland that organically binds together white people of the past, present and future. And its policies must be guided for their benefit if they are to succeed.

Crime is down in DC, so let’s claim there’s a crime wave and send in the FBI! Just like there is no migrant crime wave, so let’s militarize LA and arrest everyone who’s brown!
here's today's post: "dipshit president to fight imaginary crime wave in dumbest way possible" — how fucking stupid is this?

At #ASA2025 the only place to sit and rest seems to be in an empty ballroom. The hotel lobby is packed and the restaurant/bar wants you to spend money. How about some chairs outside the session rooms?
Why are conference chairs always so uncomfortable? #ASA2025

If you work in higher ed, you need to get your folks together and end the use of course evals or at least bar their consideration in evaluation, promotion, and hiring. This needed to happen yesterday because they don't measure learning, they measure instructor gender, but now it's a snitch pool.

How have you been impacted by the changes we've seen under the current administration? What would you want to say to those in charge?
