I think it's a great cover.
It was in some ways a lucky escape. It was a proper shootout, with guns on both sides. The house still has musketball marks from that time in the walls.
A great shame. It needs to be taken in hand and preserved.
Sad news, the Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu in the Ardennes, France, suffered a disastrous fire on Sunday. The Carthusian priory was founded in 1132, largely rebuilt during the 17th century, and dissolved during the French Revolution. It is a protected historic monument. #RuinedPrioryFriday
He did. He was shot outside the front door, but managed to crawl back inside, where he died.
Holbeche House, near Dudley, where the leaders of the Gunpowder Plot met their end in a shoot out with the Sheriff of Worcester's troops on 8th November 1605. This photo was taken around 1900.

In memory of all the beloved pets who are no longer with us. We will also meet them again someday...
I wouldn't touch the real ones, but I'd be very tempted to line them all up with Photoshop later...

A bit of silliness from 2021.

Kong's first line is taken directly from the 2007 BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford.

medieval necromancy journal
Our medieval curator Alison Ray introduces Rawlinson Bodleian Library MS. Rawl. D. 252...a 15th Century necromancer's journal.

This manuscript contains spells written in Latin and Middle English, and would have served as a reference for a professional sorcerer.

Maga having their night of the long knives.
The ruins are massive as you can see in this aerial shot. The abbey is EH, but as I said they are currently closed for maintenance. The music college is in the 18th century house built in the nave.
