its not really a superhero story, its a noir murder mystery that uses superhero comics as the cultural fulcrum to examine "how did we get here?"

because "genre deconstruction" is just pretending to have themes and moore had more thoughts going on at the time

for all watchmen created a bunch of annoying trends in superhero comics, i dont think the "ahh, I GET IT!" crowd really gets taken to task enough for their near exclusive focus on watchmens real "genre commentary" and their severe de-emphasis on all the other stuff it was actually talking about

thunderman takes a similar approach, where moore chooses the moment dc comics bought superman as the first step in a causal chain that lead directly to the january 6th capitol riots, for similar reasons he explored in watchmen

hooded justice's repressed homosexuality and masking it with his superhero identity and vigilantism basically positions the introduction of the superhero as the critical point a method was discovered to repress sexuality in a repressive society and how that resulted in all that came after

moore's novella "what we can know about thunderman" extends those themes pretty heavily and is probably the most organic extension of the parts of watchmen he actually cared about thatll ever be made

the talk over watchmen focusing exclusively on its interpretation of superheroes isnt really getting to what mattered to moore about it anyway ("i'd already done that with marvelman"). the superheroes are really more a psychogeographical tool to explore sexual repression and conservatism
