Yeah but their relationship had changed considerably. If she had walked in on him at any point prior to the whole Kinley debacle, his reaction would have been a lot more welcoming. I can see why he wouldn't want to display himself like that when she had (to him) rejected him.

Depends. I know plenty of people that when they say "I don't know" they actually mean "no" but don't want to say it. Trying to be nice.

However, in the realms of the show, I also think, as you did, is that she wasn't sure if she could, but she was trying.
