I’ve watched this happen in my local district. The effect on teachers of these ever-shifting curricula is demoralizing. TEACHERS ARE MORE THAN CONTENT DELIVERY MACHINES. District is $6M in debt, w/even lower test scores, can’t figure out why but let’s cut all the arts electives ‘cause that’ll help.🤬
How much money is spent (read: wasted) on curriculum "products" that change constantly and don't work, instead of relying on the training, knowledge and professionalism of great teachers?

How much do we waste on standardized tests that teach nothing, do nothing, reveal nothing?
"Some [teachers] complained about the effect of technology on students’ stamina for reading and interest in books. But more pointed toward the curriculum products their schools had purchased from major publishers."

That about sums it up. "Curriculum products" are killing education.

So, yes, this is horrifying. But there are two things the article does not address:
1. Back in the day, English teachers got two prep hours, not just one. The thinking then was that they had twice as much student writing to go through and grade and it took twice as much time (more, really).

Between my niece and nephew are in 5 different choirs total so these two weeks have been performances every day/evening. Wouldn’t trade it for the world but I think we all will be glad when the schedule lets up(only for musical rehearsals to start up in earnest in Jan!)

"This isn't going to cross stitch itself," said Taylor Swift, describing how a driven person does hobbies, and instantly every Swiftie cross stitcher dove for their stash to start cross stitching that quote. <3<3<3 #oneofus

Happy birthday! I don’t know if this counts but I’ll be spending the evening at my 10yo niece’s first cello concert. ;) But I also need to get some words into my Yuletide story, which definitely slots into that category!

Bergen Reilly wins the Big Ten Player of the Year award. She helped the Huskers hit .352, which is on track to be a school record.

Reilly is the first setter since 2018 to win it and the first Nebraska player since OH Kelsey Robinson in 2013.

So ESPN, in the year of our lord 2025, STILL doesn't understand what they have in NCAA women's volleyball and puts the *1st and 2nd rounds of the TOURNAMENT* on its app (while it airs what--4 year old 30 for 30s--on its main networks?)? People should lose their jobs for dumb decision like this.
Nebraska will play Long Island Friday at 7 p.m. at John Cook Arena.

San Diego (25-4) and Kansas State (17-9) will kick off the day at 4:30 p.m.

The winners will meet in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.

All the matches will be steamed on ESPN+

BRB, performing the upper midwestern ritual of attempting to ward off heavy snow by getting gas for the snowblower and starting it up for the first time “just in case.” It’s like when kids do their homework ‘cause if they don’t they’ll jinx the snow day.

Okay as someone who has read that book aloud to a lot of kids and classes:

Ack! Yeah get out ahead of that. We’re expecting that much in central Wisconsin Sat-Sun and already making plans to huddle inside because nobody needs to drive in that.

Oh for sure. It’s all the good songs, too(maybe most of them, if you take into account why they’re calling 2 “For Good”). The new songs…feel new songs, wedged in there for the Oscar noms probably.

One thing’s for sure: this did NOT need to be 2 whole-ass movies. But I’m sure you knew that already!

I saw it last night. Have not read the book; have seen the play but I have almost zero memory of Act 2 except it was whackadoo and dumb. The theater kids I was with (a whole theater full of youth chorus kids!) seemed to think it was pretty faithful to the musical. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm starting to think there would have been injuries if the teams with the missed lifts (which are so rare at this level!) had tried to push through and do them.
