I wonder how much serious human factors analysis and design goes into car turn indicators.
There’s a huge range in terms of size, placement, color, function (progressive/switching) a lot of which is clearly driven by aesthetics.
And I’d say effectiveness varies considerably too.

US School Bus pedestrian practice is effectively designed to train kids on how to get hit by cars.
There is an insistence that kids cross in FRONT of the bus which blocks their, & driver’s view of what is happening on the road.
Which will be a problem once they’re crossing the road on their own.
