One more week to apply for RUTA annual conference, 12–15 July 2026 in 🇺🇦Carpathian Mountains.

Having participated twice, I highly recommend applying—especially if you care about the region & epistemically just ways of producing knowledge.

#RUTA in solidarity with #Ukraine
Due to numerous requests, we are pleased to announce that the abstract submission deadline has been extended by two weeks. We encourage all interested contributors to take advantage of this extra time to finalize their submissions. We look forward to receiving your contributions by Nov 30
Our 2026 RUTA conference will be exploring the role of embodied knowledges and knowledges rooted in the places we conduct research about. We will discuss how the making of knowledge, art and cultural heritage changes when it is grounded in places and communities and which possibilities this opens

Imagine…
OTD in 1968 Soviet Russia invaded to save Czechoslovakia from the Prague Spring. Some of these tanks are in Ukraine today.

We said we were protecting them from Nazis. Imagine such a bullshit excuse today...

'The Alaska summit won’t go down in history as a “Munich 2.0”. That ship sailed out into the Black Sea in 2014. [...] If this summit does make it into the history books, it will be remembered as an act of great betrayal. Europe, however, need not be complicit.' New piece for @prospectmagazine.co.uk👇

I want to ask you all for your contribution to this important goal: a rehabilitation centre for Ukrainian women who got out Russian imprisonment. They survived abuse, torture, starvation, and sexual violence. Now they need a place to become human again.

Rehabilitační centrum pro ženy propuštěné z ruského zajetí
Představte si, že vám seberou všechno – důstojnost, svobodu i naději. Tohle není představa. Tohle je realita žen, které přežily ruské zajetí.

today’s Kyiv, the free world’s capital. what is happening in Ukraine will define the rest of the century for all of us, and you have the power to decide whether you will be shaping this future together with Ukrainians or it will be shaping you.
3yrs ago, almost all Western embassies evacuated from Ukraine, & many saw Kyiv's fall as imminent. But Ukraine stood its ground, thanks to the immense courage of ordinary people.
Today, world leaders are in Kyiv. It may feel dark, but don't despair--act! russia should be defeated.

Honoured to have been awarded the 2025 Brodie Prize for our work, in which we problematise the persistent theorising of Europe's East and Central Asia through western-centric perspectives and russia-centric frameworks, calling instead for the re-centering of the knowledges of (de)occupied societies
