This is Archie. He's deaf and doesn't hear when his humans get home. Luckily, his little brother Frankie lets him know with a gentle nudge to make sure he doesn't miss the moment. 14/10 for both (TT: melissamilne)

According to federal data, 13 of the top 20 cities in homicide rates have Republican governors. None of those cities are Chicago.

8 of the top 10 states in homicide rates are led by Republicans. None of those states are Illinois.

And yet Trump is sending troops here.

Over 30,000 of Tony Wied's constituents are at risk of losing health care under the GOP’s Big Ugly Bill that he voted for. Wied does not care if his constituents have health care, and he won't even face them in person to tell them that.

I was in Milwaukee and Butler today to talk with local leaders, business owners, neighbors, volunteers, and folks affected by recent storm damage who are working clean up and rebuild.

If you haven’t, be sure to report damages by calling 211 or visit: 211wisconsin.communityos.org.

David Roberts

Someone once said, “Fascism is a counterrevolution against a revolution that never happened.” What fascists do is try to convince this reactionary base that they’re in danger, that they’re under dire threat from the liberals and the queers and the professors.
We have a new Q&A w/ @volts.wtf coming soon & it's wild how well our previous one from June '24 holds up

"We have this lying, abusive, obviously nutbag figure, and we can’t acknowledge to ourselves what’s happening. The political commentariat is trying so hard to process this into a normal thing."
David Roberts on why this campaign is driving him crazy

Hey, as a librarian I need to tell you:

Our funding depends on usage.

So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.

These look great! 🧶
My big July project was releasing five new sock patterns for my latest eBook! I had so much fun designing and knitting the patterns for Interjection! Socks, and after months of work behind the scenes, it’s so great to have them all finally released.

Just Ask! by Sonia Sotomayor is a beautiful reminder that everyone’s differences make them unique. At Equity Kids, we encourage children to ask questions, celebrate what makes us all special, and treat each other with respect and kindness. Books like this help spark those important conversations. 📚💬

Speaking of not working, Mike Johnson just shut down the House for 2 months to block the release of names of pedophiles, but taxpayers are still paying his salary ($224K/yr), 73% of all his & his family’s healthcare expenses, $79/day food stipend, & up to $34K per yr for things like travel & housing
Johnson: "The Urban League that came out with their study that said 100k+ people are gonna lose Medicaid bc of the work requirements? That means they're choosing to not work... if somebody drops out of the program bc they're unwilling to do that, they did not deserve to be on that program."
