Zu dem wunderbaren Ostfriesischen #Schwarzbrot - ein reines #Schrotbrot mit #Brühstück aus #Saaten - dieser Tage war ich noch das Anschnittbild schuldig geblieben. Hier ist es. Man sieht leicht, warum es mühelos weit vorn auf meiner persönlichen Favoritenliste gelandet ist.

A final but especially important reason that popularism has put the United States at greater, not lower, risk of authoritarianism is the Democratic Party’s overly cautious use of institutional authority and political power beyond elections. Popularism doesn’t just urge candidates to check the polls before making a campaign decision; by defining politics down to poll-watching, it trains leaders to check with polls before governing—any use of their legislative and administrative power. Successful opposition parties in authoritarian environments around the world don’t do this: they engage in politics in order to wield power, not just to win or maintain it. But in the United States, the opposition party sees elections as its only tool, even as the regime repeatedly and brazenly threatens electoral integrity. The implicit pitch is “at least if you vote for us, you keep the right from governing.” Examples of Democratic squeamishness about power abound. The Democrats have just now begun to engage in partisan gerrymandering, fifteen years after Republicans used it to tremendous gain. And Democratic politicians who call Trump a dictator have voted for nearly all of his nominees in the Senate. In this, Democratic leaders are the ultimate popularists—waiting to use their institutional power until it is overwhelmingly clear that public opinion is on their side. The results have been disastrous. Most consequential was the hesitancy of the Department of Justice under Merrick Garland to swiftly and aggressively prosecute Trump for the coup attempt on January 6, 2021. That’s exactly the opposite of what Lula’s government has done to Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil after Bolsonaro’s own coup attempt. As seen across more than two dozen other countries that convicted or banned from office national leaders for constitutional violations and crimes since 2010, this is not an impossible task.

Letzte Tat für heute in der #Backstube: Den Ofen zum Schluss noch für die #Resteverwertung nutzen. Das mache ich meistens so. #Cracker aus #Sauerteig mit ein paar #Saaten - sooooo lecker. Es soll ja Leute geben, die Reste vom ASG entsorgen. Käme mir nie in den Sinn. 😋

Man bewahrt sie am besten in einer Blechdose auf. Zutaten stehen parat: Parmesan, Sesam, Leinsam, Eclats, Wasser, Kümmel, Paprika und etwas Ras el Hanout. Und Sauerteig und Mehl (R1370) natürlich.

Der #Backtag ist fast vorbei. Das Ostfriesische #Schwarzbrot ist aus dem Ofen. Und es muss mindestens 12 Stunden ruhen, ehe es angeschnitten wird. Obwohl das schwerfällt bei dem Duft. Jetzt noch die letzte Ladung Sauerteig-Cräcker, dann bin ich durch für heute. 🙂

Nach fast drei Stunden Gare reif zum Einschießen. Kleie ist gut zum Abstreuen der Teiglinge. Aroma in Kruste. Ein bisschen Deko darf sein. Auch wenn ich nicht zum Ankucken backe. ;)

Ich wiege fast alles beim Brotbacken elektronisch ab. Aber für manches ist ein anderer Waagentyp besser geeignet. Dafür habe ich ein tolles Schätzchen aus Familienbesitz. Ca. 125 Jahre alt. Hat schon Generationen gut gedient und funktioniert immer noch tadellos. ❤️

Wir essen immer noch von den wunderbaren Boskop-Äpfeln aus dem vergangenen Herbst. Sie halten sich sehr lange draußen in einer großen Kiste abgedeckt in einer Styroporbox. Und wenn doch mal einer braun wird, bekommen ihn die Amseln. ;)

Sold some of my #photo-studio-gear now. Endless backdrops, ceiling-rails, pantographs, Hensel-flashheads and lightformers, one of the full-frame Canons and two lenses. Don't need the money - sometimes one must let go and give room for other things.
And I could still easily fill two more studios. 🙃

My workstation is all #linux now - Linux #Mint with #Cinnamon to be precise. After kicking anything #Adobe last year there was no more need to keep #W11. And it feels good and works very well.

Best time for #baking is sunday early morning, when nobody is up yet and I have the kitchen for myself. Today it was just some #toast - for my lady and the granddaughters mainly.
For tomorrow I have the wonderful Oldenburger Schwarzbrot - just rye whole-meal, no flour - on the list.

It has been a busy morning. But it was worth it.
White bread with #sourdough (the reanimated one from 2018), like my ancestors from the #Banat (Romania) made it. #Brötchen (rolls) after a recipe from the GDR and three sheets of #crackers from my sourdough #leftovers.

White cabbage and a large glass. The cabbage has been cut and needs to be hit hard :) All done. Ready for turning into Sauerkraut. Some roasted spices for aroma and taste.
