The Ark and the Empire, first book in the Shards trilogy (pub by @headofzeus.bsky.social), by @michaellivingston.com, is a great blend between history and myth; a pageturner that gives a fantastical spin over a key moment of Roman history.

Yesterday I was writing about Shiloh. This morning Omaha Beach. Right now, the Third Crusade.

All of it, strangely and concerningly, relevant.

It’s hard to promote anything with all that’s going on, but if you’re looking for an escape, my first novel was just re-released. It’s beautifiul and I’m very proud of it:

I am really enjoying "Bloody Crowns" by @michaellivingston.com . Super dense, as he's covering an incredibly dense era, but gripping and easy to follow. I also can't get the phrase "wet gap" out of my head. Absolutely recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in medieval history.

Water is a human essential, so a water bottle is a travel essential. Trouble is, water bottles generally suck. Too bulky. Too heavy. Too leaky. Too dirty. Too big for the cupholder. And, in many cases, too full of microplastics. Another problem with most water bottles is that they don’t add much to the existing abilities of a travel kit. They hold water, sure.
