Interesting. We met a UK deportee in rural France. He was running a corner shop. Said he had been deputy manager in Macdonald's Golders Green before deportation. Had family in the UK and wanted to speak to us to maintain his English.
English lang and family. Two pull factors that Mahood can't change

Mahmood stated “We have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world” This is not true. We do not take in as many migrants as other countries. Im all for solutions to *real issues* but her position is based on lies

Thank you for your article. By officially endorsing that the UK is a soft touch may be a crowd pleaser but basing an immigration policy around it is disingenuous. Mahmood's stance, her cruel and punishing language is divisive and further normalising racism

It currently costs over £3K per person applying. A carer with a few dependants who came soon after COVID, the person everyone is afraid of, would already need to pay like 10K for the application alone. It is already prohibitively expensive for many, and you can still increase the fee if you want.

Many have refugees in their family’s past. My husband’s uncle by marriage was on Franco’s death-list (he was anti Franco). He escaped over the Pyrenees + to 🇬🇧 where he met OH’s aunt.
Just as well, as when his mum died, they took him in/brought him up as their own

He told me a lot about living and escaping from Franco’s Spain. We had a connection because I’d spent a chunk of my gap year living/working in Madrid in Franco’s Spain.
Many people who vote Reform have absolutely no idea how appalling fascism is.
