Pisses me off that we’re stardust with the gift of conscious existence and having to spend our time on all this bullshit.

It’s “insurrection” when judges assume for themselves “powers that have been delegated by the Constitution to the president.” judges “have no conceivable authority” to restrict the commander in chief from “dispatching members of the U.S. military to defend federal lives and property.”

New Republic:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule

"He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this."

newrepublic.com/article/2014...
The specter of Portland "burning" is
dimwitted MAGA propaganda. But
Trump is now nakedly threatening to
invoke the notorious nineteenth-century
act if Democratic governors or the courts
lawfully exercise their roles in our
constitutional schema, in a way that
displeases him. This would unshackle
vast and dangerously vague authorities to
domestically deploy the military. powers
nominally reserved for extraordinary
domestic unrest or civil breakdown.
Trump would invoke it based on sheer
fabrications, or possibly on old footage of
Portland he saw on Fox News.

‘Miller is also insisting that judges “have no conceivable authority” to restrict the commander in chief from “dispatching members of the U.S. military to defend federal lives and property,” meaning in Portland.‘

’It’s no accident that this comes right after Miller loudly denounced the Portland ruling by that judge—a Trump appointee, no less—as “legal insurrection.” Miller declared its “insurrection” when judges assume for themselves “powers that have been delegated by the Constitution to the president.”’

All I want in life is to persuade everyone, when encountering politics & culture, to ask, "why are we talking about this?" I mean that very literally: anything you encounter on your screens reflects a choice. Someone covered that, talked about that, rather than the many other things out there. Why?

For context claims that Digital ID's are for everyone were being debunked... claimed to just be for those of working age to prove right to work
emmalbriant.bsky.social
Fair enough, but if Digital IDs are rolled out as a 'right to work' check, it won't be long before they are used to access services... or even to be required for voting if the political pendulum swings. Those railing against migrants working have plenty of other grievances.
fullfact.org
On social media and their website, the Liberal Democrats have claimed “Keir Starmer says everyone in the UK will be required to have mandatory digital ID”.

But this isn’t the case, and we can’t find any evidence the Prime Minister said it was.

White House staff should just make and show him an AI-generated video where he wins, fly him to Duluth and tell him it’s Oslo, and dare the New York Times to say anything more than “Experts disagree about whether Mr Trump was awarded the Nobel Prize”.

Congratulations to Maria Corina Machado, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize - her incredible optimism has already changed her country. I spoke to her, and wrote about her, at the beginning of this year:

Maduro is still in place, but a pro-democracy movement is transforming the beleaguered country.

Note the wording.. Ms. Machado receives the prize for:
- promoting democratic rights
- struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition
- At a time when democracy is under threat
- where democracy is in retreat
- more and more authoritarian regimes are challenging norm

David Bowie — worldbuilder. Morph. Technologist.

No one like him. Cannot imagine him living in this current insane timeline.
