Also, attempts at directly comparing NOLA to the rest of the south are disingenuous at best, because NOLA had a distinctly unique history of racial relations to begin with. I recommend learning about that. And I'd point to Congo Square as a great place to start listening.

Sure, if you assume people never leave their neighborhoods. But that's not the case. So many people mingle across all those lines, in so many places, that the largest determination of who you can and can't find friendship with hinges on whether or not a person is an asshole.

queer spaces are so overly racially biased it makes me upset every time.

the lack of boosting black positivity or just interacting with black art is upsetting. black art, people, and characters aren't viewed in the same desirability as white characters.

Honestly, as a non-practicing white, this has always been my ick with "the queer community". I'm from New Orleans and now live in New Mexico, but it's always palm colored people I'm seeing in "queer safe spaces". Never made sense to me.
