An apology, being upset, wanting things fixed immediately. It's normal to react strongly. I saw every way escalation could have been avoided, with stopping to think. But that's not what happened. Emotion ruled the day, and so here we are.

It was there as a placeholder to later edit for the final assignment, and I'd forgotten all about it.
After apologizing I was met with empathy, "what happened?" Given the benefit of the doubt. And that makes all the difference. My academic career didn't end.
